(KGTV) — Universal Pictures has decided not to release its upcoming movie, "The Hunt," following two recent mass shootings and backlash over its plot.The R-rated film, starring Hilary Swank, Betty Gilpin and Emma Roberts, depicts a group of wealthy elites hunting humans for sport. Last week, Universal faced backlash for airing ads for the film following recent mass shootings in Texas, California, and Ohio that left more than 30 people dead.The film's website now shows a statement from Universal, reading: "While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for the hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film. We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film."Before the film's pending release, "The Hunt" had already received its share of criticism.Though he didn't name the film directly, a day prior the Universal's decision President Trump weighed in on Twitter, saying, "Liberal Hollywood is racist at the highest level, and with great anger and hate." 1237

(WXYZ) — Nearly 100,000 children tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks of July, according to a new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association.According to the report, 97,078 kids tested positive for coronavirus between July 16 and July 30, which is nearly 1/3 of the total confirmed cases of children in the U.S. since the beginning of the pandemic.The report found that around 338,000 children tested positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began. Over the last two weeks of July, the number of positive tests increased 40%.According to the report, the academy looked at state numbers that were considered children. The age ranges vary by state, and in Michigan, it includes anyone 19 and younger, but the state recently started reporting age groups 0-9 and 10-19. (KGTV) —  Crews watching a tractor-trailer driver navigate a curve on State Route 175 saw the end result coming a mile away.Video shows a big rig try to make it around a one lane section of SR-175 between Hopland, Calif., and Lakeport. As crews looked on, they knew it would be difficult."Oh he's in it to win it," one person is heard saying, before the truck begins to fall."There he goes!" another yells.As the truck slowly passed the spot a retaining wall was being built, its back wheel began to cross over the embankment's edge. The weigh of the truck's load pulled the truck over the embankment.Caltrans District 1 said multiple signs warning truck drivers of the truck length restriction (39 feet in total length) have been posted but were clearly ignored."Sometimes they simply get stuck, but others end up going over the embankment. This driver was not injured, but it must have been the ride of his life!" Caltrans wrote. 964

(KGTV) - Suspected drug smugglers were rescued by U.S. Coast Guard crews this month after their vessel erupted into flames before sinking.Crews from the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (AMO), the U.S. Navy ship USS Zephyr, and the Colombian Navy ship ARC "07 de Agosto" detected the high-speed vessel on April 7 in the eastern Pacific Ocean.As crews prepared to intercept the vessel, the suspected smugglers allegedly began abandoning their cargo and jumped from the boat as it caught fire.RELATED: Canadian who posted drug smuggling trip on Instagram sentenced to prisonCrews rescued four suspected smugglers and spent 90 minutes extinguishing the flames."There was no doubt in our minds what needed to be done to salvage the evidence needed for a successful prosecution even if it meant laying Zephyr alongside a burning hull, with the intense heat and acrid smoke hindering our 90-minute firefight," Lt. Cmdr. Grant Greenwell, the commanding officer of the Zephyr, said.After putting out the fire, crews say they recovered about 1,080 pounds of cocaine.
