Cardi B and her sister Hennessy Carolina are facing a defamation lawsuit after the rapper posted a video on social media accusing a group of Long Island beachgoers of being racists.The video was taken on Sept. 6 at Smith Point Beach in Suffolk County, according to the plaintiffs' attorney. It shows Carolina and her girlfriend, Michelle Diaz, involved in an expletive-filled spat with three people who are supporters of President Donald Trump.Cardi B shared the video with her massive social media following and accused the group of being racists who attacked her sister and Diaz.Now, the people on the other end of the video are suing the rapper for defamation, claiming Cardi and company attacked them.Attorney John Ray, who represents the plaintiffs, said his clients were enjoying a beach day with their families when Carolina came running up the beach toward them.“Hennessy Carolina suddenly approached them, raging, spitting, insulting, assaulting, defaming and threatening them, all the while videotaping them, because one of them wore a MAGA hat,” Ray said in a statement. “Then Hennessy, Cardi B and celebrity model Michelle Diaz deviously edited the videotape and published the edited version all over social media, across the world for all to see, and maliciously falsely labeled these residents and their families as ‘N…s’ and as racists.”The video was posted by Cardi B several weeks ago during a heated social media war between the rapper and conservative media personality Candice Owens.In the caption she posted along with the video, Cardi B said her sister and Diaz were being harassed because they are “an Afro/Hispanic gay couple.”However, the beachgoers painted a different picture of the incident during a news conference Tuesday detailing the lawsuit.Peter and Pauline Caliendo, of Moriches, and Manuel Alarcon, of Middle Island, said Carolina got in their faces, cursed and threatened them repeatedly after they asked Diaz to move a vehicle that was blocking other cars.Peter Caliendo and Alarcon said the video affected their careers, and Pauline Caliendo said she has had to defend herself to her family and friends.While the Caliendos had a Trump flag on their beach tent and Alarcon had a Make America Great Again hat on, all three insisted they are not racist or homophobic and that the incident had nothing to do with the president or race.“Anyone who knows us knows we’re not racist or homophobes,” Peter Caliendo said.Police were called to the scene, according to Ray, but the women had left before officers arrived on the scene. A police report was filed, Alarcon said.The lawsuit alleges that the video was created and posted online in an attempt to advance their careers. CARLSBAD (KGTV) -- A slope in Carlsbad is moving, affecting a senior community on top of it. The question of who is responsible for paying to fix it has the City of Carlsbad battling with those who live in Camino Hills.“It’s been a tremendously stressful experience for everyone,” said Mike Perry, who has lived in Camino Hills since 2001. Joe Matthews has called the Camino Hills community his home for about 19 years. “We have lunch out here, sometimes dinner,” Matthews said, as he showed Team 10 the front patio area where he relaxes with his wife. “The grandkids come visit.”“It’s a really wonderful community,” Mathews added. What he did not know was something was going on beneath the surface. “It came as a real surprise,” Matthews said. According to court documents filed by the Camino Hills Homeowners Association in 2018, the City of Carlsbad noticed damage to the pavement and sidewalk right by Camino Hills Drive back in 2007. In January 2009, a geotechnical firm placed devices in the slope to track the movement. There was more slope movement detected during the El Ni?o rainstorms from 2016 and 2017.To fix the issue, it could cost anywhere from 0,000 to about million, according to Elizabeth French. French represents the Camino Hills Homeowners Association. She said the city did not fix the problem properly in the first place. “The city actually knew that there was an ancient landslide at this location and rather than make the developer make a more expensive repair, they allowed the developer to put in a subsurface buttress made of soil, but in recognition that that wasn’t the best repair,” French said. She said when this community was being built, the City of Carlsbad entered an agreement with the developer of Camino Hills. In the indemnity agreement, French said it required the developer to fix any problems for up to 10 years after the community was built. Camino Hills was built in the mid-1980s and the developer is now out of business. French said the city is now asking the residents of Camino Hills to foot the bill.“There’s nothing in this association’s government documents alerting any of the prospective purchasers that there’s this enormous liability out there, that they could be tasked with addressing down the road and that kind of notice is required in the law,” French said.Joanne Stout’s modular home is right by Camino Hills Drive. “This is it. This is where I’m going to be until they carry me out of here,” Stout said. On the same day, students at Sage Creek High School read letters of appreciation to their loved ones. One student wrote his message to his older sister who survived the shooting in Thousand Oaks. Teenagers are not known to pour out their feelings. But for Sage Creek High School students, it is a requirement for their English class. As part of a senior assignment called "Project Gratitude," students expressed their thanks to those who helped shape their lives. They were to write a letter, call the recipient, and reflect. “I know I don’t show it often, but I’m so proud to have you as my mom,” Izabella Razmi said. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The pandemic ignited a global fight against a fast-moving and deadly virus. “In the beginning, a lot of manufacturers shifted gears and started doing more COVID manufacturing," said Dr. Melissa Miller, a clinical lab director.Manufacturers began ramping up testing production and diverting supplies to combat the virus. But in the months ahead, laboratories started facing another threat due to a strained supply chain. Not only were labs facing shortages of supplies needed for COVID-19, but several other common illnesses. “Probably the biggest one was for sexually transmitted diseases, chlamydia, gonorrhea being the most common ones we diagnose in the labs," said Dr. Miller. The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) partnered with the Association of Supply Chain Management to track shortages across the country. ASM leaders say the data collection tool provides a near real-time visualization into the capacity, utilization, and resources necessary to meet consumer and patient demand for testing.“It was a bit of a surprise of how overwhelming it was throughout the country and that there weren’t just hot spots; it really indicated that this was a major national issue," said Dr. Miller. “The first week of the survey, almost 90% of the laboratories that responded reported a shortage of tests for STI’s.”Dr. Miller has a leadership role within ASM and has also been experiencing shortages in the lab firsthand."It’s a guessing game. Many times we don’t know when the next shipment is coming for some of the items we’re short on," said Dr. Miller. Since September, 134 CLIA-certified labs have responded to the survey, which is updated every week. Dr. Miller says the figure for STI testing supplies has improved but is still too high around 50%. And she says 47% of labs have a shortage of non-COVID-19 testing supplies to detect routine bacteria, including the bacteria that cause strep throat, pneumonia, bronchitis, and urinary tract infections."Since June, I have been worried about this exact moment," said Dr. Miller. “You have the COVID surge, the upcoming holidays, and the winter season, and you have respiratory season."The survey also showed 74% of labs have a shortage of commercial testing kits for COVID-19.She says the hope is to include more labs in the weekly survey to get a clearer picture of the supply chain issues.“Data is power; we need the data that this is a problem. And getting some federal action on this, I think, is critical," said Dr. Miller. And she says the longer labs wait for critical supplies, the more Americans in need of critical testing could be turned away. 2641

By mid-afternoon on Wednesday, some of the streets of Louisville were filled with demonstrators upset by a Kentucky grand jury decision not to charge two of the officers involved in fatally shooting Breonna Taylor in her home in March.On Monday, the city was placed in a state of emergency with the expectation that protesters and law enforcement would clash. Many downtown businesses were boarded up and police officers were called back from vacations.As of 9 p.m. ET, the city went under a mandatory curfew.Thirty minutes before the curfew order went into effect, two Louisville officers were shot amid the protests. The officers were hospitalized but expected to survive, Louisville Metro Police said.Brett Hankison was the only officer charged among those who participated in the raid on the apartment where Taylor lived. Hankison’s charges, however, were not directly in response to Taylor’s shooting. He was charged with wanton endangerment for firing gun shots at other apartments.Two other officers, Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, are not facing charges. Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron considered their use of force justified.Hankison, Mattingly and Cosgrove returned fire during the raid after Taylor's boyfriend Kenneth Walker fired at the officers. Walker was arrested but had his charges dropped due to the belief that the officers were breaking into the apartment.Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney representing the Taylor family, called the lack of charges “outrageous and offensive.”“This is outrageous and offensive to Breonna Taylor’s memory.
