CINCINNATI — "The NRA is a terrorist organization.”Mad Dog PAC, a Maryland-based political action committee, paid to put messages like this one on billboards all over the country, including over northbound Interstate 75 in Middletown. Their installations, which include an "Impeachment Now" sign near President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and 14 other National Rifle Association-centric billboards across the country, are splashy, provocative and to-the-point, calling for regulation of the NRA and the removal of various "Treasonweasel" Republican politicians.PAC chair Claude Taylor said the messages are as severe as they need to be."We think the NRA is acting very much like a terrorist organization," he said. Coca-Cola said Friday that it would offer buyouts to 4,000 employees as part of corporate restructuring and said that layoffs could be coming in the future.According to a press release, the buyouts will be offered to employees in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico with a hire date "on or before" Sept. 1, 2017. The company said the "voluntary program" would reduce the number of layoffs.According to Coca-Cola's statement, the company's current operating model consists of "17 business units" that will be consolidated into "nine operating units."Following the announcement, Coca-Cola's stock price rose nearly a point in early trading, an increase of just under 2%.According to WSB-TV, Coca-Cola has more than 86,000 employees nationwide. Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Jon Klassen recalls a moment that occurred around 2 a.m.—just a few hours after the gunfire ceased at the Route 91 Music Festival.  He calls it “one of the most meaningful, symbolic things” he has ever seen in 30 years in the business.Klassen was working with other paramedics and a crime scene investigator, combing through the grisly aftermath of the concert grounds, helping to confirm fatalities when one woman in particular stood out.“She just was so beautiful and peaceful,” Klassen recalls. “And quiet.”He said it almost just looked like she was laying there, watching TV, when he noticed something around her eye.“Just one tear drop,” he said, still sounding like he has trouble believing what he saw. He remembers reacting to it and just thinking, “me too.”“I am so with you, dear.”Klassen would soon learn that this woman, one of the 58 victims whose lives were cut short by a gunman perched in a hotel room, was 46-year-old Lisa Patterson. A wife. A mother of three.Her husband, Robert, went through a 22-hour ordeal to track down his wife, as detailed in a heart-wrenching account in a local newspaper.Upon hearing word that this deputy fire chief had something he would like to share if it’s something Lisa’s family would want to hear, Robert contacted Klassen.“We had a great conversation. And it was comforting and closing and cathartic for him. And I was able to tell this 16-year-old kid, ‘Your mom was beautiful, and peaceful and quiet.’”The two have spent some time together since that initial phone conversation, and Klassen now considers Bob Patterson a friend.Despite the fact that it has been four weeks since the attack, very little information has come to light and many questions remain, including the timing of when security guard Jesus Campos, the first to arrive at the gunman’s room, arrived on scene. Authorities have offered varying accounts in the weeks since. There is also still no word on a motive.But none of that frustrates Klassen. CLEVLAND, Ohio — The FBI is investigating civil rights issues inside the Cuyahoga County jail according to a damning report detailing serious problems inside the jail.The details of the incident involving the use of force as a punishment, as well as the FBI's involvement were blacked-out in a version of the report released by Cuyahoga County on Wednesday.However, a complete version obtained by WEWS television station investigators confirm "this particular UOF incident was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cleveland...for further investigation."According to the report, prepared by the US Marshals at the request of county leaders, the Facility Review Team confirmed use of force is used as punishment inside the jail.The report also noted more than 100 interviews with inmates and detainees "reveal strong and consistent allegation of brutality, UOF punishment, and cruel treatment at the hands of the Security Response Team (SRT), whom the detainee/inmates refer to as "The Men in Black" based on their black para-military uniforms."Inspectors also noted that body cam video revealed "aggressive conduct and behavior as well as abusive, explicit language used by SRT members direct at detainees/inmates."US Marshal Pete Elliott confirmed that both the FBI and Cuyahoga County's Inspector General are conducting investigations into civil rights issues inside the jail.Since late June, at least six inmates have died at the jail. Inspectors noted the jail failed to conduct reviews of the deaths and cited "insufficient and unclear answers" regarding the deaths.The report also found there have been 55 suicide attempts at the jail in the last 12 months.Cuyahoga County leaders have pledged improvements at the facility and say some changes have already been put in place. 1818
