Nestlé's Purina is launching a line of dog and cat foods that'll include insect and plant proteins.In a press release, the company said Purina Beyond Nature's Protein would come in two versions: one based on chicken, pig's liver, and millet, which is a small, round whole grain grown in Asia and Africa. NEW YORK, N.Y. – It’s been nearly a year since the death of Elijah McClain in Colorado, but as people across the U.S. learn of his case, more are calling for justice.In New York City, a beautiful vigil was held on Monday to honor the life of the 23-year-old man, who played violin.A crowd of musicians with string instruments gathered in Washington Square Park to play a variety of songs, like “Amazing Grace” and “We Shall Overcome.”In videos shot by Yuxi Liu, spectators with candles can be seen crowding the Washington Square Arch, where the musicians were playing.Liu says the vigil wasn’t organized like a formal event, but that’s part of what made it so special. He says there was no rehearsal and you can even see people running up late in his video.“However, that’s exact the reason why it’s beautiful,” said Liu. “People showed up only because people care. Me and bunch of other photographers showed up because we want to help document the moment.”Elijah McClain caseThere’s been renewed interest in the Elijah McClain case after nationwide protests put a spotlight on past instances of police use of force across the country.McClain died on Aug. 24, 2019, shortly after being arrested by officers with the Aurora Police Department.KMGH reports that McClain was walking home after purchasing iced tea at a convenience store when a bystander called 911 to report “a suspicious man wearing a ski mask and waving his arms.” Family says McClain wore the mask because he was anemic and got cold easily.When officers tracked McClain down, police say he began “resisting.” Body camera footage shows officers grab McClain almost immediately after attempting to stop him.As police struggled to detain McClain, an officer placed him in a "carotid hold" — a maneuver designed to limit blood flow to the brain. When McClain became unresponsive, paramedics administered a shot of ketamine "due to the level of physical force applied while restraining the subject and his agitated mental state."Police insist that paramedics were the ones who chose to administer ketamine. NEW YORK (AP) — Dunkin' doughnuts and coffee is being combined with Buffalo Wild Wings and Arby's sandwiches.Inspire Brands Inc. said Friday that it is acquiring Dunkin' Brands Group Inc. for .3 billion, including the Dunkin' Brands' debt that Inspire will be taking on.The private-equity firm will pay 6.50 in cash for all of Dunkin' Brands' shares, which closed Friday at .71.Dunkin' Brands' stock surged to an all-time high earlier this week after the company confirmed the two were in merger talks.Dunkin', based in Canton, Massachusetts, also owns the Baskin-Robbins ice cream chain."Dunkin' and Baskin-Robbins are category leaders with more than 70 years of rich heritage, and together they are two of the most iconic restaurant brands in the world," Paul Brown, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Inspire Brands, said in the news release.There are 12,500 Dunkin' stores and 8,000 Baskin-Robbins outlets worldwide.Inspire will operate Dunkin' and Baskin-Robbins as distinct brands, the company stated.According to the New York Times, this is the largest restaurant acquisition in more than a decade. 1129

New numbers uncovered by a CNN investigation show an alarming number of gun mishaps happening at the hands of federal air marshals, and it’s prompting some to call for a new review of how the program operates and whether air marshals are needed at all. Last year, an incident captured national attention, when a passenger found an air marshal's loaded service weapon in the plane's bathroom. According to CNN’s investigation, it wasn’t an isolated incident. According to the report, the Transportation Security Administration’s Office of Inspection documented more than 200 cases of air marshals allegedly misusing or misbehaving with their weapons between 2005 and 2017. Nineteen of those cases involve marshals accidentally firing their weapons. More than 70 involve lost or misplaced weapons, including some left in airplane bathrooms or in airports. And at least 13 of the incidents involved alcohol.  "I’d always get that there’s going to be a few incidents just because that's life; that's how it works,” says Jeff Price, an aviation security expert at Metropolitan State University of Denver. “But this many incidents, particularly how many are related to alcohol, that’s a serious concern, and there’s underlying problems there that need to be addressed.” Price wrote a book on aviation security and believes the program works as a deterrent. However, he says an overhaul of the air marshal program may be needed. "So, I think it’s definitely time for a stem-to-stern review of the entire air marshal program,” Price says. “I’m not advocating we get rid of it, but I am saying we should improve it, so it’s what we really envisioned." A former special agent in charge of an air marshal field office believes, when put in context with the thousands of marshals the agency has, the numbers are still relatively small. "You'd hope to have a 0 percent error rate, particularly when employees are carrying weapons,” the former official says. "But you employ human beings, and humans are going to have failures." The TSA responded to the CNN report with their own statement, saying reports of misconduct are taken seriously and investigated, adding that they take disciplinary action in the wake of any misconduct.  2280
