Thousands have signed two petitions asking the hometown of Chadwick Boseman to replace a Confederate monument with a statue of the late actor. One petition has garnered more than 14,000 signatures, and the other petition has over 7,000 signatures.Boseman lost his 4-year battle with colon cancer on Friday, his family said in a statement.Boseman portrayed Black icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown before finding fame as the Black Panther in several Marvel movies."Mr. Boseman is without question an American treasure, and his accolades go on and on," one of the petitions said about the late actor. "It only fits that his work is honored in the same place that birthed him."The Confederate statue in question is located in of county courthouse in Anderson, South Carolina.According to the Independent Mail, the monument falls under the state's Heritage Act, which means to remove the statue, the act requires a two-thirds vote by the state legislature. 962

Thousands of Central American migrants fleeing poverty and violence packed a bridge connecting Guatemala and Mexico in sweltering heat Saturday as part of a politically charged, U.S.-bound caravan. At one point, several dozen migrants trying to make their way north sang the Honduran national anthem on the edge of the muddy Suchiate River between Tecun Uman, Guatemala, and Tapachula, Mexico.Their journey continued one day after defiant caravan members rushed passed border gates only to be stopped by rows of Mexican riot police who dispersed tear gas and smoke canisters into the crowds. The slow procession north has led President Donald Trump to threaten to cut aid to Central American nations and to send troops to the U.S. border if Mexico failed to stop the surge."Our message is we're not criminals," Honduran migrant Orlean Herrera said. "We're coming over here because we need a better life. That's why we're here." 933

There is a lot of concern along the Gulf Coast right now. Two tropical systems are headed for the area at the same time, potentially impacting land on the same day. It's very rare according to the National Weather Service (NWS), something we haven't seen in decades. What's most concerning, is the amount of people in the path of the storms.“The number of people that could be impacted by these two systems is huge, you know, from the northern part of Texas, throughout the entire coast of west side of Florida and the panhandle as well,” said Joel Cline, a meteorologist and NWS Tropical Program Coordinator.Large amounts of rain, storm surge and wind are threatening the Gulf Coast early next week. So, could these systems merge? It's something called the Fujiwhara effect. It's named after a Japanese meteorologist who first described the effect. It's something that happens in the pacific with typhoons.“That’s where two come in close contact and then they move around each other counterclockwise,” said Cline. “That's not going to happen in this one.”There is another potential impact of these systems being close to each other.“So, when you have two of these in one area, then the descending air may get into the other one and help weaken it or make the other one stronger,” said Cline. There's still a lot of time for things to change. Regardless, meteorologists say people in the paths of these storms need to be hurricane ready.“Labor Day is essentially the halfway point and so we've got a lot more hurricane season left and what we’ve already been through,” said Cline. 1584
