I would ask that you reserve judgment or comment on this case until you actually see the evidence presented by the parties.In the event that you will not, I understand that a person unfamiliar with most of the facts in this case, and a person unfamiliar with the obligations that individuals are under when they give deposition testimony, might perceive Mr. Ryan’s statement as noteworthy. It is not. First, as I doubt you’re aware, Mr. Evans himself has testified – unequivocally and under oath – that Mr. Ryan is not racist and was his friend; so whatever point Mr. Evans is trying to make by leaking deposition testimony to you is undone by his own words. Second, this testimony is not Founders’ defense in this case as you allege. Founders evaluated and decided to terminate Mr. Evans based only on his job performance. Mr. Evans’ poor job performance will be apparent when Founders files its upcoming motion. Third, through this testimony, Mr. Ryan was simply saying that he does not assume anything about individuals’ race or ethnicity unless they tell him that information. While it might be acceptable to speculate about this type of thing in casual conversation, Mr. Ryan was not having a casual conversation. He was under oath when he made these statements. As all deponents are instructed, Mr. Ryan was directed not to guess, assume or speculate in his deposition. This is the reason for his answer.The fact that Mr. Evans is selectively leaking this type of information to you indicates that, unlike Founders, he has no evidence to support his position in this case. PARIS (AP) — Paris city hall has been fined 90,000 euros (9,408) for having appointed too many women to top positions in 2018, in breach of a law aimed at ensuring gender balance. Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo denounced the fine as “unfair” and “absurd” on Tuesday during a meeting of the city council. In 2018, 11 women and 5 men — representing just over 30% — were appointed to senior positions in the Paris city hall. A 2013 law required a minimum of 40% of appointments for each gender. Since then, the law has been changed to provide for exceptions to nominations when the gender balance is respected overall. “Yes, we need to promote women with determination and vigor because everywhere, France is still lagging behind (on that issue),” Hidalgo said.In Paris city hall right now, 47% of people in senior position are women. 836

OTAY MOUNTAIN, Calif. (KGTV) - An illegal immigrant rescued by Border Patrol agents during hot weather in South San Diego County "signaled gratitude" with a thumbs up gesture, CBP San Diego said.The man had crossed the border illegally and called 911 from Otay Mountain Thursday after midnight to get help, officials said. Agents used a helicopter to find the man and remove him from rough terrain, according to the CBP San Diego Twitter feed. Temperatures in the area were in the mid-80s with high humidity at the time.The immigrant was suffering from severe dehydration and was treated at a Border Patrol station, officials said. The unidentified man, a Mexican citizen, faces removal, CBP San Diego tweeted. 718

PARKLAND, Fla. – The death penalty case against Nikolas Cruz in the 2018 massacre at a Florida high school remains in limbo.At a brief hearing Tuesday, no decisions were made on a trial date amid continuing obstacles because of the coronavirus pandemic. Cruz's defense lawyers say they have almost no access to him in jail, nor do defense experts they insist must see him to build a case."We're in a worldwide pandemic. It's just not safe to be doing that right now," said defense attorney Melisa McNeill in the hearing, held remotely. "All of that, unfortunately, is on hold."Broward County State Attorney Michael Satz said his office is ready for trial but added that they must await the filing of various anticipated defense motions. That is one of the issues interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.Cruz, 21, is charged with killing 17 people and wounding 17 others during a Valentine's Day 2018 rampage with an AR-15 rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.Cruz's court-appointed public defenders have repeatedly said in court he would plead guilty in exchange for a life prison sentence. The state attorney's office has rejected that, contending that a jury should decide his fate.Just when a trial may begin is anyone's guess.As time has gone on, things have changed. Satz, the state attorney, is leaving his post after 44 years. There are new candidates to replace Satz, including Democrat Harold Pryor who, if elected in November, would be the first Black state attorney in Broward County history.Pryor has not commented directly on the Cruz case but, in general, has said he personally opposes the death penalty.
