BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- China will actively and steadily push forward urbanization next year, with a focus on improving quality of the efforts, according to a statement issued Sunday after a two-day central economic work conference in Beijing.

Last year, Liang Xiuhuan, 44, dubbed by netizens as "the cheekiest and most villainous nurse", tossed a ten-month-old baby in the air and let the boy fall on a bed. Liang beat the baby and even forced him to nibble her toes. She was hired to take care of the baby in his home in Shenyang, capital of northeastern Liaoning Province. She got a 15-day administrative detention.

"As much as Sandy could wreak havoc on the East Coast, a densely populated area and world center of finance, its worldwide impact would be insignificant," said Dr. Meng Qingbin at the Beijing-based Renmin University.

The move marks another step in China's efforts to nurture the over-the-counter (OTC) market amid moves to diversify the capital market, analysts said.
