When Sgt. Brian Maynard pulled over Laura and Jimmy Baker, he was preparing to deliver a ticket. Instead, the state trooper summoned an EMS team, which delivered the couple's baby girl on the side of North Carolina's US 64 highway.It all began Saturday night in suburban Raleigh when Laura Baker got in a minivan with her husband for a visit to the hospital to check on some contractions she'd been having. Then, 10 minutes into their drive, she suddenly went to labor."I said, 'I cannot control this, we're not going to make it there,'" Baker said.So when her husband spotted Maynard's patrol car, he did everything he could to get the officer's attention, speeding and flicking his lights."As soon as we pulled over, my water broke," Baker said. "And my husband jumped out with his arms up, saying, 'My wife's in labor and I really need help.'"All three knew they didn't have time to get to a hospital. Maynard called the EMS team in nearby Wendell but was prepared to do the job himself."I said, 'OK, well, we're going to do this right here, me and you,'" he told CNN affiliate WSOC.So Baker's husband and Maynard held the mother's hands and urged her to wait for the EMS team."My husband and the trooper were nervous, because they certainly weren't prepared," she said. And when the EMS team arrived, everyone realized they couldn't get Baker on a stretcher. So she delivered in the front seat of the van.It was this team -- as well as the trooper's assistance -- that Baker said she's most thankful for."Without them, I don't know how successful it would have been," she said. "It was maybe a five-minute experience, but a vital five-minute experience. [The EMS team] did everything to make sure it was sanitary and healthy."Baker was taking her baby, Halyn, home Monday and was planning on paying a visit to the EMS team that helped keep her infant daughter healthy throughout the delivery. While most performers have had to shelve public performances during the coronavirus, musician Trey Songz performed at a nightclub in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday.According to Trey Songz’s social media accounts, he performed at the Aftermath Nightclub on Saturday.While in normal times, the concert wouldn’t be newsworthy, the performance prompted Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein to order the nightclub temporarily closed, claiming the concert violated state COVID-19 requirements. He issued a restraining order against the club on Tuesday. Klein says the order will be effective until the case goes before a court, which he says could come on December 17.Ohio currently requires people in public indoor spaces to wear masks unless they’re actively eating or drinking. Klein said that the nightclub disregarded the mandate, based on an investigation by the Ohio Investigative Unit. His office estimates that 500 people were attendance at the concert.“Last weekend’s indoor concert at Aftermath was in blatant disregard of COVID-19 health orders and social distancing best practices,” said Klein. “We are in the middle of a surge in coronavirus infections, yet the owners of Aftermath planned to continue hosting large-scale events at their venue, including this upcoming weekend. While many Americans do it, taking a selfie with a completed ballot is considered a crime in most states. According to CNN, there are laws prohibiting taking or distributing photos of your ballot while at the polls in 27 states. For voters in 23 states and DC, photos from the voting booth are generally permissible. A person could be charged with a felony in Illinois and Wisconsin for taking photos at the ballot booth.While some of the 23 states have previously had laws prohibiting photography of ballots, there have been recent court rulings questioning the constitutionality of such laws. One example came during 2016 in New Hampshire. The state argued that the law was necessary to prevent ballot photography to be used as a means of voter fraud or intimidation. The plaintiffs argued that prohibiting ballot photography denied voters their free speech rights. A federal appeals court ruled 3-0 that the state had not shown that it was using the least restrictive means to achieve a compelling state interest of prohibiting voting fraud. According to the ruling, New Hampshire Secretary of State William Gardner was unable to show examples of how ballot photography led to voting fraud. "The restriction affects voters who are engaged in core political speech, an area highly protected by the First Amendment," the ruling states. "There is an increased use of social media and ballot selfies in particular in service of political speech by voters. When Francesca Marie McNally was born, she was the perfect baby. “Perfectly healthy. Beautiful. Very interactive,” describes her dad, Sean McNally. He and his wife Veronica were in love with their little girl. Just before she turned three months old, she started coughing.  “We saw four doctors,” said Veronica. “None of the doctors we were seeing, and there were so many, really knew what it was,” said Sean.After not getting answers from their pediatrician's office and local emergency rooms, they took their baby to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. Doctors there immediately recognized how serious the situation was. She was rushed into intensive care. She did not make it. “It is with me every day. I think about her every day. I feel that loss every day,” said Veronica. Doctors found out too late that Francesca had whooping cough and they also found out how she caught it. “I had whooping cough. I don’t know where I got it from. I look back and wish that I would have known more about the way I could have protected myself and my family,” said Veronica. Babies cannot be vaccinated against whooping cough, but doctors recommend those who care for them are. Veronica says she asked why she wasn’t told this during her pregnancy. According to medical records, on the day of her delivery, a nurse offered her the Tdap shot, which is the whooping cough vaccine. 1449
