SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Seattle man injured in an ATV accident in Mexico has died in a San Diego hospital, according to his family.Chad Carrico was on a cruise October 10 when he chose to leave the ship for a day trip in Ensenada.Carrico and friends rented ATV’s, according to his mother Theresa. While using the vehicles, Carrico hit something and lost control.“He flew over the handles and the ATV rolled on top of him and crushed him,” said Carrico.RELATED: San Diego woman celebrating birthday in Mexico?injured in parasailing crashCarrico suffered severe liver damage, a punctured lung, and internal bleeding. He had surgery at Velmar Hospital in Mexico and was placed on life support, his family said.The need to return Carrico to the United States became more pressing when his family learned he contracted a dangerous fungus on his nose that could spread to his brain.Carrico was brought back to the U.S. Tuesday night but died at a Scripps Mercy hospital hours later, his family told 10News.The family had started a GoFundMe account to raise money for Carrico's medical bills. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- After years of setbacks and construction, part of One Paseo is getting ready to open its doors in Carmel Valley. The company behind the project plans to open the multi-concept development in phases, with the retail space scheduled to open first in the beginning of March. The residential area is set to open in the summer of 2019 with offices on the property following in 2020. The City Council approved the much larger original project in 2015, but it was overturned after opponents collected 60,000 signatures on a petition. Council members urged the project's developer, Kilroy Realty, and its opponents to reach a compromise.The downsized One Paseo project was approved by San Diego’s City Council 8-1 in mid 2016. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Texas company has been awarded a contract to erect nearly 30 miles of fencing along California's border with Mexico.U.S. Customs and Border Protection awarded 7 million in construction contracts to Texas-based construction company SLSCO. The contracts include up to 14 miles of secondary wall and up to 15 miles of primary pedestrian replacement wall in California within the San Diego, Yuma, and El Centro Sectors.The 15-mile primary pedestrian replacement wall will include the installation of a new, 30-foot steel bollard wall: About 11 miles in Calexico, three miles in Tecate, and one mile in Andrade. According to CBP, these areas represent areas where wall replacement has been a priority. Construction for that 6 million project is slated to begin in July 2019.The secondary wall project is a 1 million contract and will include up to 14 miles of the same 30-foot steel bollard wall adjacent to San Diego's primary fence replacement project that is currently under construction. Construction of that project is projected to begin February 2019.SLSCO has already worked on border construction earlier this year, constructing new steel fencing in Border Field State Park.The two projects are a part of President Trump's "Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements" executive order, which calls for a contiguous wall to be built along the southern U.S. border with Mexico, according to CBP. 1447

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An oft-deported immigrant who was charged in a DUI, hit-and-run crash that injured a young boy in the South Bay will not be tried for the third time.A judge ruled Friday to dismiss the case against 39-year-old Constantino Banda Acosta. Banda was charged with driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run on Camino de la Plaza in San Ysidro on May 6, 2017.Investigators said Banda ran a stop sign and crashed his pickup truck into the Lake family’s Honda Accord, as they were heading home from Disneyland.
