SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of a missing Arizona grandmother believes that she may be heading to San Diego.On Monday, ABC10 News spoke to Aaron Richardson about his grandmother, Alice Fults, who was last seen on Friday morning in Chandler, Arizona. "You'd never think this would happen to you and for it to happen and [to] somebody you know totally tears you apart," he told ABC10 News.On Monday afternoon, Chandler Police confirmed that the 58-year-old stroke survivor and dementia patient got on a Greyhound bus on Friday morning that was bound for Los Angeles.Her family says that she could be trying to get to San Diego which is where she grew up and where her sister still lives. "She's from Lakeside so she always talked about Lakeside, California and how she wanted to go back to Lakeside," said Richardson.Fults has hearts with names tattooed on her legs and horseshoes tattooed on her arms. She has a drooping eyelid from her stroke and needs her seizure medication. Her family told ABC10 News that she left with her granddaughter's ID but not her own ID. She doesn't have a cell phone. Family added that she has a history of wandering off but never for more than a few hours."If you see this, Alice...I love you, grandma. Get some help, okay? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Termed-out San Diego City Councilman Scott Sherman is taking aim at what he says is too much outside influence behind the scenes at City Hall.In an interview with ABC 10News, Sherman said too many of his colleagues vote based on their own political preservation."Unfortunately, too many politicians are looking down the road and at what office they are going to run for next," Sherman said. In a recent op-ed, Sherman said in politics he has learned that handshakes and signed memos are worth a "bucket of spit." He said political gadflies, union reps, party reps and political donors are wielding too much power of council members. Sherman believes this is the reason the city still has not come to an agreement on regulating short-term rentals, and is approving labor-friendly development projects."One of the things that bothered me the most in politics is how different special interest groups can literally come down, sit in the front row, and dictate to council members what they will and won't do if they want their support in the future, and unfortunately most of them do," Sherman said. Sherman said he is the exception because he did not base his council career on a run for higher office. He did run for mayor in 2020, losing in the primary. But he said chose to run because of encouragement, and because no other Republican entered the race. Michael Zucchet, who heads the city's Municipal Employees Association, said Sherman and other politicians generally define "special interests" as those that disagree with them. "I wasn't very moved by his comments and they struck me as sour grapes," Zucchet said in an email. "It seems like pure hypocrisy to me. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The brother of the man accused of fatally shooting a Good Samaritan on Interstate 15 in October has been arrested and will also be charged in connection with the murder.Edson Acuna, 24, was taken into custody in Mexico and turned over to U.S. authorities Tuesday, according to San Diego Police. Acuna's brother, Brandon, was arrested shortly after 21-year-old Curtis Adams was shot and killed on I-15 during the early hours of Oct. 27.Adams, a San Diego Navy sailor, and his girlfriend had stopped their vehicle on southbound I-15 just before 2:30 a.m. to check on an apparent stranded vehicle near the Mountain View area, said San Diego police homicide Lt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The community is coming together for the family of a San Diego mother of two who died this week while acting as a surrogate for another family.Michelle Reaves was helping a family have children of their own, according to a GoFundMe set up to help her family. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The biggest auto theft scheme in San Diego history has come to an end. District Attorney Summer Stephen announced Thursday that more than 100 vehicles were stolen though identity theft and fraud dating back to 2016. Investigators say the ringleader, 34-year-old Bryan Orr, created shell companies and used more than 20 co-conspirators to help him steal cars using identity theft and fraud. The items stolen ranged from high-end luxury vehicles to RVs and jet skis. "They would create fake lines of credit, fake credit histories, fake documents so that they could use it in their schemes," said CHP Captain James Portilla. "He would create fake websites so if an institution wanted to verify info on a loan application they would look like there was a legit business."In one scam, a straw buyer would purchase and finance a new vehicle. Thereafter, the auto loan would be paid in full by other co-conspirators. Once the title to the vehicle was sent to the purchaser, the vehicle would be immediately re-sold. Once the sale proceeds were secured, the individuals who made the payments would falsely report the fraudulent use of their bank accounts, leading financial institutions to refund the payments that had been made on the vehicles. Immediately the funds were withdrawn and passed on to Orr, investigators said.“As newer vehicles become equipped with effective anti-theft technologies, traditional methods of stealing vehicles are not as effective,” said Portilla, “As a result, we have seen an increase in vehicle theft using a variety of fraud schemes.”Another fraudulent scheme involved the purchase or return of “merchandise” between the various shell companies. Once the seller withdrew the proceeds from the transaction, the buyer would dispute the purchase and receive a provisional credit from the bank. Similar to the vehicle purchase scheme, upon receipt of the refund, the funds would be withdrawn immediately or used to make fraudulent purchases with other “shell companies.” Orr used the shell companies to steal in excess of .5 million from banks during this time period, prosecutors said.Orr has no criminal history and is still in custody on million bail. If convicted, he may face up to 100 years in prison.While 21 people face charges, six of them are still wanted in this case. 2334
