SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of volunteers is working to make sure homebound seniors get the groceries they need during the Coronavirus Pandemic."We're just a group of friends that saw our Seniors needed help here in San Diego," says volunteer Sydney Prochnow.The effort started over the weekend when one of the volunteers saw an older man struggling to buy groceries. That sparked an idea and a flurry of texts. The call to action quickly turned into advocacy."We jumped on the chance," says volunteer Joshua Daguman. "People said, 'Hey, I can make a website,' 'I can make a GoFundMe,' 'I can do this.' The next day, within honestly four hours, we're up and running."They created StayHomeSD, a donation-based, volunteer-run organization that delivers bags of groceries to any senior who asks for help. The service is free.A GoFundMe donation account pays for the food and delivery costs. Daguman says if the seniors or their families want to pay for what they receive, they're asked to donate to the account."The reward is actually the hope we're bringing to people. The joy, not the groceries," says Daguman.Anyone interested in getting help can sign up online or by phone. StayHomeSD will deliver up to five items per person per week.Volunteers are screened with background checks and must have a clean driving record. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 30-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday night after police say he was stabbed outside a City Heights liquor store.According to police, the 30-year-old victim was standing outside the Qwik Korner Liquor store at 39th Street and University Avenue when a woman walked up to him.The woman, later identified as Irmalinda Gonzales, 37, then started swinging her arm, stabbing the victim in the left arm, police say.The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. SAN DIEGO (CNS)  - A 39-year-old woman suffered some head injuries Saturday morning during a home invasion at a residence in the Nestor community of San Diego, where one of two suspects fired a shot into the structure, shattering the glass of a rear patio door.No property was taken, said Officer Steve Bourasa of the San Diego Police Department.The woman was with her 45-year-old husband at their home in the 1500 block of Oro Vista Road when someone knocked on their front door a little before 1:30 a.m. and asked for a woman, Bourasa said.``The woman told the male no one by that name lived there," he said. ``The male left the front door and went to the rear of the residence, where he was joined by another male. The two males jumped the patio fence and began banging on the rear glass patio door."One of the suspects fired a shot into the patio door, shattering the glass and one of the two suspects entered the home, he said.He confronted the woman, demanded money and punched her several times when she said she did not have any money, he said.``Meanwhile, the husband had exited the front door and went around to the rear of the residence, where he saw the other male standing on the grass," Bourasa said. ``That male pointed a handgun at the husband and then fled."The man heard his wife screaming, ran back inside his home and saw her being assaulted by one of the two suspects. The man then began punching the suspect who had been assaulting his wife, causing the suspect to flee the residence, where he jumped over the patio fence and ran off, he said.The 39-year-old woman was transported to an area hospital, he said.One suspect was described as a 20 to 30 year old Latino man with a normal 5-foot, 7-inch tall normal build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with black pants and glasses.The second suspect was described as a 20 to 30 year old Latino man with a 6-foot, 2-inch tall normal. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a woman accused of drunkenly dragging her co-worker with her car before fatally running him over in Kearny Mesa.Latisha Ingram, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving in the death of 25- year-old Ha Minh Ta.Prosecutors say Ingram, Ta, and a group of co-workers went out for drinks on Convoy Street last June, when Ingram tried to driver herself home. Ta tried to stop her, eventually grabbing the door of her car.
