SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One San Diego restaurant has been awarded one of the most prestigious accolades given to eateries.Chef William Bradley's restaurant Addison at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar was given one Michelin star in the guide's first California edition. The guide awards between one and three stars to restaurants, meaning either "a very good restaurant in its category" (one star), "excellent cooking, worth a detour" (two stars), or "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey" (three stars).Addison, a contemporary French restaurant, was San Diego's only restaurant to receive a star and one of 90 to receive at least one star in the California guide.RELATED: Michelin names several San Diego restaurants as 'hidden gems'In a statement to 10News, Bradley said the award is "humbling." "We are honored to be recognized by Michelin during this seminal year in California. Since opening Addison in 2006, we have devoted ourselves to the pursuit of excellence and will continue to find inspiration from that relentless commitment, offering each guest a superlative, personalized dining experience," Bradely, the restaurant's director and executive chef, said. "Michelin’s acknowledgment of our team’s dedication to service and our craft is humbling, and we look forward to championing and aspiring toward the high standards the Guide represents in the year ahead.”Addison isn't the only local restaurant to receive recognition from the Michelin guide. Several restaurants were honored as "Bib Gourmand" establishments — "hidden gems" of San Diego.San Diego's Campfire, Cucina Sorella, Cucina Urbana, El Jardin, Juniper & Ivy, Kettner Exchange, Lola 55, and Solare were hailed for their "high-quality" menus for or less. The eight local restaurants will join 151 other Bib Gourmand picks in California's 2019 edition. The Michelin guide has been published since the early 20th century and is regarded as the oldest restaurant guide. Originally, publishers distributed the guide to provide travelers information on local hotels, restaurants, gas stations, mechanics, and maps.In 2005, Michelin published its first U.S. guide for New York City, covering hundreds of restaurants and hotels throughout the city's boroughs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Palomar College has placed its president on leave pending an investigation. The college district announced Wednesday that Superintendent and President Joi Lin Blake was placed on paid leave following a report warning of the college district's fiscal instability.“It is my request that we all respect the privacy of all parties at this time. Doing so will allow us to focus on the important work of the District. Together, we will remain focused on student success, our response to the FCMAT report and building toward a successful spring semester," Kahn wrote in a release.RELATED:San Marcos parents sound off against superintendent's hiresSan Diego State's stadium effort gets -million donationThat Nov. 8 Fiscal Crisis Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) report identified several serious concerns regarding the district's fiscal health. The report cites that the college district's adopted 2019-20 budget will have a ,748,859 deficit. According to the district in the report, the 2018-19 budget had a ,220,001 deficit. The report stated that the district's salary and benefits costs "continue to increase year after year at a rate greater than revenue growth."The college district "has a high probability of fiscal insolvency in the near future" at its current pace, the report warned. The report adds that in two years the district "will have consumed all reserves and will be forced to borrow .5 million from an external source to remain solvent."The district said placing Blake on leave was not as a disciplinary action but "as a precautionary measure to protect all parties." In a corrected statement, the Palomar Community College District Board of Trustees said Assistant Superintendent and Palomar Vice President Jack Kahnh has assumed administrative responsibility of the district. An acting Superintendent/President was not named. 1877

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — President Trump's pardon of former Congressman Duncan Hunter came as no shock to the man who successfully prosecuted the case.“While I am appalled as a citizen, I am not surprised given the prior conduct of the president,” said Phil Halpern, who left the Justice Department after the case concluded.Halpern was one of the Assistant U.S. Attorneys who prosecuted Duncan Hunter and his wife Margaret in 2019. They were accused of misusing 0,000 of campaign contributions on everything from basic living expenses to lavish vacations, then falsifying reports.RELATED: President Trump grants full pardon to former Congressman Duncan HunterHunter called the charges a political hit job, but in December 2019 pleaded guilty to one felony count, ultimately resigning. His 11-month prison term was set to start in January, but President Trump pardoned him Tuesday.Halpern said seeing the case through was still worth it to demonstrate that the people who write the laws are not above them.“It was important not only that he be convicted, but he admit his wrongdoing. He spent too much time claiming that his prosecution was political,” Halpern said.RELATED: Margaret Hunter granted full pardon by White House, one day after former CongressmanOn Wednesday, Hunter's father, former Congressman Duncan Lee Hunter, maintained the charges were political and that the issue should have been handled civilly by the Federal Election Commission, as spelled out in a letter of support from former FEC commissioner Bradley Smith.“At the end of the line you've got one last receptacle of justice, and that's the President of the United States,” Duncan Lee Hunter said. “And he looked at this, a Marine Corps marathon, First Lady’s luncheon. They’re going to try to put this guy in jail for that? (President Trump) saw the injustice of that.”Duncan Hunter is now working for a construction company, his father said.RELATED: President Trump issues more pardons of alliesHalpern said the case was not politically motivated, noting that the Justice Department was run by a Republican in William Barr. He said he never felt pressure to ease off, and that the dollar amounts were well beyond anything that could be handled by the commission. On Wednesday, Trump also pardoned Margaret Hunter, who was sentenced to eight months of home confinement. Speaking before that announcement, Halpern said Margaret should be pardoned if Duncan is as well. 2447
