AURORA, Colo. — Detainees at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention Center are conducting a hunger strike in response to repeated infectious disease quarantines. This week, more than 200 detainees in the Aurora Contract Detention Facility are under quarantine, meaning they cannot visit with family, attend court hearings or leave their respective detention pods.Concern is growing for the families of the detainees, as some 65 have been under a mumps quarantine for two months and have just been told that quarantine will now start over again and will last another 21 days.Priscilla Cruz-Moreno’s husband Henry is one of the 65 heading into another quarantine. “We are going on two months now. It's inhumane," she said.“He's in pod B4,” she said. “The pod decided to strike, which means they are not going to be eating food."Priscilla says her husband's pod inside the ICE detention facility has now been placed a quarantine for mumps and chicken pox for the third consecutive time — more than 60 straight days.Danielle Jefferis, a University of Denver-based attorney, has been fighting for the rights of these detainees for months."We are hearing that detainees are getting extremely frustrated because they don’t know why these quarantines are being extended. And the consequences of the quarantines being extended are pretty great," she said. Those consequences include no family or attorney visitations, court and bond hearings cancelled, and ultimately a delay a justice. She has a message for GEO Group, the private contractor paid to operate the facility.“Improve medical care in the facility. These infectious disease outbreaks should not be happening and should not be lasting as long as they are," Jefferis said. And that's the foundation for the frustration. This wife of one detainee says the men are not being told what’s going on, just that their quarantine keeps getting extended. Now it’s led to a hunger strike. 1957

By the time 2024 rolls around, we may be seeing brand new sports at the Summer Olympic Games. Some of the new sports include surfing, karate, skateboarding and breakdancing. A school in Washington, D.C. called The Lab is already training dancers in breakdancing to prepare them for Team USA.Competitive break dancer Evan Sletten has been a taking classes at The Lab for six years.“A lot of upper body strength goes into it,” Sletten describes of the sport.Sletten says he would describe it as an athletic dance. “Competitive breaking is very different in the sense that there’s rules,” explains The Lab owner Antonio Castillo. “There’s a point system. You have a referee. You have different criteria in place to make sure it’s a fair sport.”Castillo has considered breakdancing a sport for a long time, and he already uses an Olympic scoring model for his students.“We use a 10-point system and all of criteria is the definition of what the dance is, so you can’t argue against it because those are the elements that make up the dance,” Castillo says.Sletten says the point system helps with improvement.“It’s great because if you need to improve, you’re not just seeing win or lose,” he explains. “You’re seeing each category, every little thing that you did right that you did wrong.”In a way, this group of competitive break dancers has been gearing up for the gold for years already. So, if the sport gets to take the Olympic stage in 2024, they’ll be ready. “You’re going to have the first time in history that you’ll have a b-boy or b-girl be the Michael Phelps of breaking, and to me that’s the greatest thing ever!” says Castillo. 1650

Attorney General William Barr removed the acting head of the Bureau of Prisons, the Justice Department said Monday, replacing the agency's top official in the wake of the suicide of Jeffrey Epstein earlier this month. In a statement, Barr said Hugh Hurwitz, who had served in the acting position since last year, would return to the assistant director position he formerly occupied.Dr. Kathleen Hawk Sawyer, who led the bureau from 1992 to 2003, will be the new director, Barr said.Barr has said he was "appalled" and "angry" to learn of the suicide, and cited "serious irregularities" at the Manhattan facility where Epstein had been detained. This story is breaking and will be updated. 698

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Mother Nature has been all over the place the past few weeks in Oklahoma, but one family has been impacted by disaster twice in the same week. The Williams family has been forced to wait as floodwaters rise near the home they were given through a veterans program. Joshua Shorty Williams served in the U.S. Army. On May 22, Joshua and his wife, Jenny, and their three kids — Kayla, 15; Bryson, 14; and Aiden, 12 — evacuated their Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, home due to the flooding in their neighborhood. They went to stay at a relative's place in downtown Sapulpa and were slammed by the tornado on Sunday night. “Yes, we've had an eventful week or so, unfortunately,” Joshua Williams said. “We moved into our house in the Indian Springs Estate on January 7, 2019. When they issued the voluntary evacuation for our neighborhood on Wednesday, we left our home. We came to stay at my brother-in-law's building in downtown Sapulpa. We were hit by the tornado last night. Thankfully, everyone is safe and well.” The Williams family is not out of the woods yet. They spotted their house on a drone video posted online with the most recent footage of their neighborhood. They could see that the water is rising and slowly creeping up their driveway. The family’s plan is to stay at their brother-in-law's place in Sapulpa for now. With the pending storms and rising waters, the future of their family house is uncertain.“Yes, we are unfortunately playing the waiting game,” Joshua Williams said. “Hoping and praying the levels don't rise to the house. But all we can do is wait and see. Everything that's there can be replaced though. Just sucks as we were just awarded the house through the 1718
