Councilmember Georgette Gomez is calling for the San Diego City Council to officially oppose construction of President Trump's "Border Wall." But, she says her opposition has nothing to do with her feelings about the President, or about the need for immigration reform.Gomez told 10News she thinks a wall would hurt San Diego's economy and environment."As leaders of the 8th largest city in the nation, to be silent on the wall is a disgrace," she says.Gomez will host a protest and rally in front of City Hall Tuesday, to bring community advocates together. It starts at 1 pm in the Civic Center Plaza.After that, she will ask the full City Council to vote on a resolution opposing the wall."It's important for the city of San Diego to stand up and protect our back yard," she says. "We need to tell Washington DC that this is not what we want or believe."Gomez says money spent on the wall would be better served to improve infrastructure to make crossing easier, improving the flow of traffic and helping San Diego become an even bigger hub for international commerce. That, she says, could add billions to the local economy."We already see it with the Cross Border Express," she says, referring to the pedestrian bridge built to the Tijuana airport. It lets travelers get across the border without having to go through the San Ysidro Point of Entry.In addition, she says the construction to widen and stream-line the Port of Entry is a good start, but more needs to be done."We should be investing in our infrastructure, but creating a wall does the opposite of what we're trying to achieve," says Gomez.In addition, she thinks construction on the wall could hurt the environment around the Tijuana River."Right now, if you want to go to the border, you can't drive down there. You have to park your car and walk," she says. "But if they build a wall, you need heavy equipment. So that's going to be brought in by vehicles and heavy machinery. They'll have to drive through sensitive habitat."Gomez says recent construction on the fence that currently exists was given a waiver so it didn't need an envioronmental impact review. She fears the same things could happen again."Regardless of how I feel about the wall, every project should have an EIR done so we know what to expect and what we can prevent," she says.Gomez says members of the Sierra Club, the Human Resources Commission and the American Friends Service Committee will be at her rally Tuesday. 2469

CVS Health is being sued for allegedly revealing the HIV status of 6,000 patients in Ohio.A federal lawsuit claims CVS mailed letters last year that showed the status of participants in the state's HIV drug assistance program through the envelopes' glassine window.The complaint, which was filed March 21 in federal court in Ohio, also names Fiserv, the company that CVS hired to mail the letters. On the envelopes used by Fiserv, the patients' HIV status could be seen through the clear window, just above their name and address, the documents states.The letters included the patients' new benefits cards and information about a mail prescription program.The companies are being sued by three unidentified plaintiffs, according to the complaint.The first plaintiff, only identified as John Doe One of Delaware County, Ohio, says he "feels that CVS has essentially handed a weapon to anyone who handled the envelope, giving them the opportunity to attack his identity or cause other harm to him."Another plaintiff identified as John Doe Two of Defiance County says he lives in a small town and fears the stigma stemming from the disclosure of his HIV status.He is also concerned that his "friends and family run the risk of being stigmatized just by being seen with him."The third plaintiff says he also lives in a small town in Gallia County, where "everyone knows everyone" and has experienced "significant distress as a result of this disclosure."He is scared to leave his home and has "experienced complications and health issues since this disclosure, up to and including just in the past several days."The plaintiffs are seeking a class-action suit and a jury trial.The attorneys claim that CVS failed to announce the breach of privacy data and did not contact all the patients whose status was revealed.In a statement to CNN, CVS Health said the envelope window was intended to show a reference code for the assistance program and not the recipient's health status."CVS Health places the highest priority on protecting the privacy of those we serve, and we take our responsibility to safeguard confidential information very seriously," the statement said."As soon as we learned of this incident, we immediately took steps to eliminate the reference code to the plan name in any future mailings."A representative for Fiserv told CNN the company does not comment on pending litigation.The Ohio Department of Public Health did not reply to a request for comment Saturday. 2483

CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Warmer ocean temperatures are being blamed after 10 to 15 people were stung by stingrays along the beach in Coronado Tuesday afternoon. According to lifeguards, 10 to 15 people were stung by the creatures after 4 p.m. Lifeguards say ocean temperatures, which reached the mid 60s Tuesday, were to blame for the increase in stingray activity. Lifeguards added that, when ocean waters warm up, it’s common to see an increase in stingray activity, but it’s unusual to see so many stings in a single day. Crews placed purple flags along the shores of Coronado Tuesday to warn of the increase, but say tourists may not know about the dangers the rays pose. The flags can also be used to warn about other creatures, such as jellyfish in the water. The California round ray is known to feed in the shallows off the California coast. Officials say the stingrays lay partially buried in the sand while hunting, making them difficult to spot for unsuspecting beachgoers. The stingray’s barb is covered in venom and mucus that causes severe pain if it breaks the skin. To avoid stepping on the rays, lifeguards recommend shuffling your feet. If you do happen to be stung, below is a list of what you should do to treat the sting: 1. Stop the bleeding.2. Go to the nearest lifeguard.3. Soak foot in hot water to deactivate venom.4. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A video of a man yelling at a teenage employee at a Coronado Coffee Shop after being asked to wear a mask, is making its rounds on social media. This happened after some reports claim Coronado is beginning to grow a reputation of non-compliance when it comes to obeying the Public Health Order.Coronado's High Tide Bottle Shop and Kitchen was closed for two weeks after one of its employees tested positive for COVID-19. Sunday was their first day back open. Manager Lynne Papaconstantinou says the mask issue not up for debate."We have very few people that come here and don't want to wear a mask," Papaconstantinou said. "If they don't, I just ask them to leave. If they say, 'Well then, you've lost my business,' well then, we lost your business."At nearby Clayton's Coffee Shop, a Coronado mother who wished to remain anonymous noticed a man shouting at two teenage baristas Saturday morning. She recorded the altercation and posted the video on social media.The woman told ABC10News that her daughter, one of the baristas, was standing behind the counter at the time. She remembered that the man became irate after being asked to wear a mask when stepping up to the counter."It was just such a terrible demonstration of the way some people behave and bully the folks that are most vulnerable," she said. "To 17 and 18-year-old baristas that are trying to work and behave professionally."According to a recent Union-Tribune article, a local business group, Coronado Mainstreet, has been educating local businesses on the health order since May. It claims three have been flagged for continual non-compliance.
