ULAN BATOR, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian Prime Minister Sukhbaatar Batbold Monday discussed bilateral ties here with Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.Batbold, also chairman of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party, said Mongolia will continue to work with China to add new substance to the Mongolia-China good-neighborly partnership of mutual trust and push the ties between the two parties and countries to a new stage.He said the partnership has moved forward smoothly in recent years, and the two parties have continuously deepened their exchanges and cooperation in various fields.Developing its ties with China is among the priorities of the foreign policy of the Mongolia's government, and is in the interests of the two peoples, he added.Wang, for his part, conveyed the sincere greetings and good wishes of President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and other Chinese leaders to Batbold.Wang said China would like to make joint efforts with Mongolia to implement the important consensus reached between leaders of the two countries, and take into account each other's core interest and major concerns. The two sides should push their bilateral partnership to a new high, and bring tangible benefits to the two peoples so that they can forever be good neighbors, friends and partners, he added.Wang kicked off the visit to Mongolia Sunday.

BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese government official has called for more efforts to promote increased awareness about energy-savings among the public and increase investments into research for energy-saving technologies.Vice Premier Li Keqiang made the remark in his letter to sponsors of China's 20th national energy-saving publicity week (June 12 to June 18) that ended on Friday.Various campaigns and promotional activities were held during the week to increase awareness about conserving energy among all communities and also promote energy-saving practices, Li said in the letter.Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said government should put more investment into research for energy-saving technologies.Additionally, long-term mechanisms for energy-savings should be established so that the 11th Five-Year Plan energy-saving goals could be realized, Li said.China seeks to reduce energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product (GDP) by 20 percent in 2010 compared to 2005 levels, according to the country's 11th five-year plan (2006-2010).The 20th national energy-saving publicity week was sponsored by the National Development and Reform Commission and 13 other government agencies.

ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 19 (Xinhua)-- More than 1,700 mudslide evacuees presently residing at schools in Zhouqu county of northwest China's Gansu Province are to be relocated as students will start the new semester soon, local authorities said Thursday.More than 400 households, altogether over 1,700 people, will be moved to Shachuan Village, in western of the mudslides-leveled county, said Yang Jianguo, head of the Civil Affairs Bureau of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture which administers Zhouqu.The people are now living in dormitories and classrooms of three local schools, namely No.1 High School, No.1 Junior High and No. 3 Junior High. With students coming back from their summer vacation, the schools could no longer be used as settlement areas.More than one thousand tents will be erected at the new settlement zone covering an area of 67 mu (4.5 hectares), with three tents for each family, said Yang."They probably will have to spend the winter there so winter tents will be used," said Yang.The devastating mudslides which hit on Aug. 8 have claimed 1,364 lives with 401 people still missing as of 4 p.m. Thursday.Work crews will level the ground, ensure water and electricity supply and build lavatories from Aug. 21 to 23. They will start setting up tents on Aug. 24, said Yang.The new semester for junior school students and pupils will begin on Aug. 25 and senior high students will be transferred to other cities in the province, and start the new semester in early September.

  

BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The central parity rate of the yuan, China's currency Renminbi (RMB), weakened to 6.7859 per U.S. dollar Thursday from 6.7802 per U.S. dollar Wednesday, according to the data released by the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.China's central bank announced on June 19 that it would further the reform of the formation mechanism of the yuan exchange rate to improve its flexibility.

  

CHONGQING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- A delegation led by Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) chairman Chiang Pin-kung will arrive at Chongqing on Monday for the fifth round of talks with the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS).The talks will be held on Tuesday, with the much-anticipated Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) and an agreement on intellectual property protection likely to be signed.Chiang told a news conference in Taipei Sunday that the signing of ECFA would profoundly influence Taiwan's economy, particularly in trade and investment, as well as the development of relations between Taiwan and the mainland.He said he expected a positive change of Taiwan's economic development mode after the signing of ECFA.The two sides will hold a vice-chairman level preparatory discussion on Monday afternoon.After the talks, Wang Yi, head of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, will meet the SEF negotiators on Tuesday.Bo Xilai, secretary of the Chongqing municipal committee of the Communist Party of China, will also meet the representatives from the two sides on Wednesday morning.The SEF delegation is scheduled to leave Chongqing on Wednesday afternoon.Since June 2008, when regular talks between the SEF and ARATS were restarted, the two sides had held four rounds of talks respectively in Beijing, Taipei, Nanjing and Taichung.The talks brought about several agreements regarding among other things: mainlanders visiting Taiwan, cross-Strait shipping, air transportation, cooperation in fighting against crime and mutual legal assistance.
