SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A new interactive map produced by San Diego County officials shows the cities and communities hardest hit by the coronavirus.The county launched its COVID-19 case rate map on Thursday, and it uses a color tier system similar to the state’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy” reopening plan.Users can look at case rates per 100,000 residents in specific areas or search by ZIP code.County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, “Cities had previously requested the map to determine how they are faring during the pandemic. The map gives cities a clearer picture of how COVID-19 is impacting their residents and will help them determine whether to take more aggressive actions to enforce the public health guidance to slow the spread of the virus.”San Diego County tallied a record 661 coronavirus cases on Nov. 10. Purple tier-related restrictions take effect midnight on Saturday, Nov. 14.Many nonessential businesses will be required to move to outdoor-only operations. These include restaurants, family entertainment centers, wineries, places of worship, movie theaters, museums, gyms, zoos, aquariums and cardrooms.The restrictions include closing amusement parks. Bars, breweries and distilleries will be able to remain open as long as they are able to operate outside and with food on the same ticket as alcohol.Retail businesses and shopping centers will be able to remain open with 25% of the building's capacity. No food courts will be permitted.Schools will be able to remain open for in-person learning if they are already in session. If a district has not reopened for in-person learning, it must remain remote only. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A priest in the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego was suspended Tuesday as church officials investigate allegations of sexual misconduct with a girl in the 1990s.Father Justin Langille, 65, initially faced the claim in the mid-1990s for an act which allegedly occurred with a female teenager earlier in the decade, according to a news release from the diocese.The case was examined in 1995 and 2002, but the diocese concluded that the allegation was unsubstantiated after Langille passed a polygraph test, church officials said.Last month, the case was brought before the diocese’s Independent Review Board as part of its process to review files about the sexual abuse of minors by clergy.“I felt strongly that even older, previously decided cases involving currently serving priests would benefit from being examined by the Independent Review Board,” said Bp. McElroy. “The voice of the laity needs to be heard on these matters and the independent board, with members that include attorneys, criminal investigators, psychologists and a clergy abuse victim, provides the diocese with exceptionally valuable guidance and expertise.”An investigator revealed significant new information that substantially undermined the credibility of Langille’s denials, the diocese said. Church officials did not provide details about the information.The diocese spokesperson did not have information about whether San Diego Police had been contacted.If the Independent Review Board determines the accusation is not credible, Langille may be returned to ministry, according to the diocese.Langille has not had a full-time assignment in the diocese since 2013, officials said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local family is remembering their mother who died suddenly after suffering a brain aneurysm.Monica Pimentel, 43, collapsed at her home on May 17. She died the next day at the hospital with her family by her side. Monica was born and raised in San Diego. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School and was deeply involved in the San Carlos community. She was the mother of four children.This is the second time tragedy has struck the Pimentel family. In 2014, one of their daughters, Jewelean Pimentel, died from bacterial meningitis. Jewelean was a freshman at Patrick Henry and was also a cheerleader for the school. The family's father is devastated after suffering two heartbreaking losses. He is now taking care of the remaining three children. He and Monica had been married for 20 years. The Pimentel family released the following statement after Monica's death: 924

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local father is recovering from stab wounds after getting attacked by an intruder in his home. The man's 20-year-old son shot and killed that intruder according to San Diego Police. It happened just before 6:30 Tuesday morning at a home in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive in San Carlos. Neighbors heard the violence. "I heard the gunshots, it was like three or four gunshots, then screams for help immediately after," said Denise Rolla. When police got to the home, they found the suspect dead in the pool and the 54-year-old homeowner with stab wounds to the upper body. Police say the homeowner's son shot and killed the intruder, who stumbled out the back and landed in the pool. "I heard what turned out to be the suspect fall into the pool and then a couple minutes later, you could see the blood start to spread out through the pool," said Andrew Grogg, who lives right next door. There are walking paths and Mission Trails Golf Course is located behind the homes which are just southwest of Jackson Drive. Neighbors say they don't have a problem with transients in the area, but police say so far, it appears the 38-year-old suspect is homeless. His name hasn't been released. The family owns a tire shop in La Mesa. They are well known and liked in the community. "They're local business owners in the community. They're great neighbors. They're kind, they're nice," said Grogg. Police say so far, the attack appears to be random. 1472
