BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping said Friday that China stands ready to boost cooperation with Venezuela in COVID-19 prevention and control and continue to help the Latin American country combat the coronavirus disease.

"During the past three weeks when the novel coronavirus spread in Iran, we have received tonnes of donated goods from the Chinese people," Ramazan Parvaz, consul general of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Shanghai, said Wednesday. "It is more than our expectations and surprised and impressed me."

By Wednesday, the mainland had reported a total of 1,664 imported cases. Of the cases, 1,139 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 525 were being treated with 13 in severe conditions. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

Sun, who is leading a central government team guiding the epidemic control work in Hubei Province, learned about the progress of scientific research on epidemic prevention and control, including the clinical trial of drugs and vaccine development, at a research base of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences in Hubei, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

When meeting with visiting WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Beijing in January, Xi said China attaches great importance to the cooperation with the WHO, and is ready to work with the organization as well as the international community to safeguard regional and global public health security.
