ISLAMABAD, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said here Friday that he is proud of Pakistan's brotherly relationship with China and wishes the Chinese around the world well.     Zardari was the chief guest at the National Day reception hosted by Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui at the Chinese embassy.     Replying a question by Xinhua on his arrival, Zardari said, "For the Chinese around the world, I wish them well. I wish them their independence and I applaud the success."     He also said, "I'm proud of the friendship which we have with China. And I'm proud of our brotherly relationship. And I'm with them in this moment of happiness. The people of Pakistan share the moments of happiness with the people of China."     Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Tariq Majid, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, government officials and senior diplomats from other embassies based in Islamabad were present at the reception.     The guests watched dances, songs and acrobatics performed by Chinese troops. At the end of the performance, chief guests and the Chinese ambassador went on the stage to greet the performers and had a group photo with them. 

BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC)and the government are to deepen the educational campaign on national unity, Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said Monday.     At a televised conference held by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission in Beijing, Liu said strengthening education on national unity was necessary "for safeguarding national unification and opposing separatism", as well as "for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation." URUMQI, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Diplomatic envoys from 26 countries and regions in China began a five-day visit to northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Monday, about a month after the deadly riot in the regional capital of Urumqi.     At the invitation of the autonomous regional government, they are expected to -- through the visit -- acquire a better understanding of Xinjiang's development over the past several decades in various respects, including its politics, economy, ethnic and religious policies, preservation of cultural relics and the livelihood of local residents. BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Thursday personally conveyed National Day greetings to elderly scientists who have made prominent contributions to atomic and medical research.     China's National Day this year will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of modern China. Premier Wen first visited Zhu Guangya, a nuclear physicist and one of the key scientists engaged in producing the first of China's atomic and hydrogen bombs between the 1950s and 1960s.     "You have devoted your whole life to the development of the country and service to the people. We will remember you with concern forever," Wen told 85-year-old Zhu. NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Oil prices plummeted to below 70 U.S. dollars a barrel on Monday as investors were rattled by the sharp decline in China's equities market.     Light, sweet crude for October delivery lost 2.78 dollars, or 3.8 percent, to settle at 69.96 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell to the intraday low of 69.13 dollars a barrel. Global stock markets dropped broadly after China's Shanghai Composite Index dived almost 7 percent, spurring concerns about the pace of world economic recovery.     Oil prices have found support from optimism that a potential turnaround in the economy could boost flagging fuel consumption, which sent the futures up to a fresh ten-month high of 75 dollars a barrel. However, oil failed to break the 75-dollar psychological barrier and fell back to around 70 dollars a barrel as investors were worried that the market might have gotten too far ahead of the economy.     In London, Brent Crude for October delivery tumbled 3.52 dollars, or 4.8 percent, to 69.27 dollars a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.
