SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An 86-year-old woman, with underlying health conditions and who had been vaccinated, is the latest flu death in San Diego.The San Diego woman died on Dec. 1 from influenza A and had been vaccinated this season, the County Health and Human Agency said. Officials did not specify what underlying conditions the woman had suffered.This flu season, seven San Diegans have died from the flu. At this time last year, San Diego reported five deaths from the flu.RELATED: Health officials stress getting vaccinated for the flu ASAP“Influenza can be deadly, especially for people with underlying medical conditions and compromised immune systems,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. “Vaccination is the best protection against influenza. The vaccine is safe and effective.”County health officials say residents should still receive a flu vaccine.Last week, 294 flu cases were reported in the region, compared to 202 the previous week. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego man whose bike was stolen, decided to track the thief himself. But instead of turning him in, he turned the situation into something positive. Rob Greenfield never thought he'd see his bamboo bike again. “I didn’t lock it because I was sitting 20 feet from it and then I heard a noise and I looked back and saw the guy speeding off into the night with it.” When he found the thief, he didn't turn him in. He pulled him in for a hug, forgave him and took his bike back.  “It’s one of a kind bamboo bike but really what makes it special is that I’ve biked across the United States on it doing good deeds," he said. "So I’ve traveled thousands of miles across the country.” The theft made him want to do more good deeds, right here in San Diego. “I decided that rather than turning that into a really negative situation I would turn it into a positive situation," he said. "Knowing the feeling of having a bike stolen I decided I wanted to give bikes to kids who have had their bikes stolen and can’t afford a new one.” Greenfield started a GoFundMe to raise money for bikes. Bikes that he would then donate to the Boys and Girls Club - to kids whose bikes were stolen. He says it's a lesson in kindness that he hopes the thief who took his bike, and the kids who were given bikes, will pass on.“I can crowd out the bad with lots of good. So one bike stolen so I can give away 10 bikes, he said. "In that way it just wipes that bad deed out.”Rob gave away 10 bikes Tuesday and says that there is enough left for him to do it again.  1614

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Amazon announced Tuesday it will create more than 200 new jobs in San Diego as part of a national expansion of its Tech Hubs.In a news release, company officials said plans are in place to expand offices in San Diego, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, New York, and Phoenix, which would lead to the potential addition of 3,500 new jobs.According to the company, there are more than 70 open tech and corporate roles in the San Diego area.With the addition of new tech and corporate jobs in San Diego, Amazon said it would add more than 40,000 square feet of office space near the UC San Diego campus.Some of the ventures being worked on at Amazon’s San Diego Tech Hub include games via Amazon Game Studios and a project that involves the launch of “Low Earth Orbit” satellites.Igor von Nyssen, Site Lead at the San Diego Tech Hub, said, “Amazon’s continued growth in our San Diego Tech Hub and the creation of these 200 new jobs is a testament to the strong and diverse pool of tech talent in this community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A surveillance system caught a man breaking into a College Area Thai Restaurant and stealing hundreds of dollars in cash and tech equipment. 10News met with Chira Svangvitaya, owner of "Sala Thai." She has been serving dishes from her homeland to the San Diego community for almost 30 years. But when she opened the store on Halloween morning, she found her store in shambles. “I saw all the things all over the floor," Svangvitaya said. MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodHer surveillance cameras captured the break-in just before 7 a.m.  A man crept in through the back door, ran through the dining area while pulling up his hood, then headed straight to the front counter. He took 0 in cash, five tablets, and a laptop before tiptoeing out the back door. "He was like a pro," she said. “In and out in less than five minutes.”While the stolen money was substantial, the absence of the tablets hurt her most.“I have Uber Eats. Grub Hub, Postmates, Door Dash, Amazon, and Yelp," she said.She said 30 percent of her sales come solely from deliveries, which means she is losing out on a lot of customers. But she said there is a silver lining to this. What the thief may not know, is that the tablets' only function is food delivery. The resale value is unsubstantial. They all come with serial numbers, which she hopes the police and delivery companies use to track them and the thief down. “I just want them [the police] to catch the guy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Sheriff's Department employee has been removed from duty after reportedly sharing a vulgar image.Although 10News hasn't seen the image, it was described as a vulgar image depicting George Floyd. The department says the image was shared electronically and was brought to the attention of leaders by a member of the department. The employee hasn't been identified."We were so disgusted that an employee may have shared such a vulgar image that we took immediate action," the department said in a statement to 10News.The department says the employee was removed from their official duties and had their peace officer authority removed."The Sheriff's Department does not tolerate any acts or actions by its employees that are a detriment to our core values. We also cannot comment on an active investigation because of Penal Code 832.7," the department added.An internal affairs investigation is underway, the department says. 962
