With that rule in mind, a lead tax research analyst at Kansas City-based H&R Block said it’s easier to complete taxes today instead of pushing it back another six months. "If you're going to have to go to the trouble to actually figure out what you owe, you might as well file your return, get it over with," said Nathan Rigney, a research analyst. "And you may discover in fact you get a refund." He added most Americans are seeing a smaller tax return, or owe the government for the first time, but they received more take-home pay during the year. To avoid having to pay next year, Rigney suggested looking at your withholding. It's the amount of money your employer keeps from your paycheck to pay the government on your behalf. You can fill out a W4 to change your withholding. Depending on your changes, come this time next year, you may be getting a check instead of writing one. "[If you don't, the amount you owe] might even be a little bit worse just because of the way the withholding tables were implemented last year for only half of the year. This year, it will be for the full year," Rigney said. But celebrating America's independence could cause trauma for those who have fought for America's independence. The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that between 11 and 20 percent of those who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars return home with PTSD. The V.A. said that 12 percent of Desert Storm veterans and 15 percent of Vietnam War vets also have PTSD. While a number of instance can trigger someone to have PTSD, the loud bangs that fireworks cause can be of particular concern for combat veterans.The V.A. says that PTSD can cause veterans to have upsetting memories, feel on edge, or have trouble sleeping. Since 2015, the non-profit group Military with PTSD has distributed yard signs informing neighbors that a veteran with PTSD lives nearby. The signs state "Combat Veteran Lives Here, Please Be Courteous with Fireworks."The signs are distributed nationwide, and can be ordered online. “Courteous to me means remembering that you are not the only one living in your neighborhood," said Jon Dykes, the veteran who made the first sign. In Aedrin Albright's civics class at Chatham Central High School, the students are getting a real-life lesson in politics.The Bear Creek, North Carolina 10th graders are studying the impeachment process. And as their representatives hear testimony against President Donald Trump in Washington, they are debating whether he should face removal from office."Your job is to try to persuade your classmates in here to come to your side, to your understanding," Albright says to her class. "To see how you see this impeachment process."Earlier this week, the students divided into groups: Pro-impeachment on the right, anti-impeachment on the left, and "I Don't Know" in the middle. The pro-Trump group was by far the largest."I don't think it's my job as a teacher to influence them politically," Albright says. "I think it's my job to teach them the two sides, or the three sides or the four sides. So, it's not my job to say, `Yes, he should be impeached.' I've had them, probably, eight or nine times, 10 times: `What do you think?' And it's like, What do YOU think? And so it's, you know, I want them to tell me instead of me telling them."Bryce Hammer thinks the process is rigged and that Democrats are simply looking for any excuse to oust the Republican president."The Democrats have just been slamming Trump and trying to find every little thing, ever since he got into office," Hammer says. I looked in my rear view mirror and it was just a dust cloud," Walaschek told CNN. "Had we walked out of that gym 15 seconds later, I would've been getting my kids in the car when it went off. I probably wouldn't be here, my kids wouldn't be here."A search of the blast zone has been completed, police said. There were no fatalities and all the victims have been located, Plantation Fire Deputy Chief Joel Gordon told reporters during a Saturday afternoon press conference.All the injured were taken to area hospitals, he said.
