SANAA, April 11 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese medical mission arrived Sunday in the southern Yemeni province of Aden as part of a cooperation agreement between the two countries, state-run Saba news agency reported.The 45-strong mission will provide medical services to residents of the southern provinces of Aden, Lahij, Abyan and Hadramout, according to the report.The mission includes neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, thoracic surgeons, pediatric surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists and a number of administrative staff, Jamal Khadabish, director of the Aden-based al-Jomhoriya hospital, was quoted by Saba as saying.The mandate of the Chinese mission would last for one year in accordance with a protocol of health cooperation between Yemen and China, Khadabish noted.

HONG KONG, April 16 (Xinhua) -- A volunteer from Hong Kong who lost his life on Wednesday when rescuing others in the earthquake- hit Qinghai province of China, has been recommended for a gold medal for bravery at home, local authority said on Friday.Wong Fu-wing, a 46-year-old volunteer, escaped from the earthquake on Wednesday morning but returned to rescue the trapped orphans and teachers in the orphanage where he worked in Yushu county of Qinghai province. He was critically injured by falling debris in a powerful aftershock.Tsang Tak-sing, Secretary for Home Affairs Bureau of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, said on Friday that Wong has been recommended for the Medal for Bravery of Hong Kong.The Medal for Bravery (Gold), created in 1997, is the first rank in the Order of the Medal for Bravery, awarded for acts of gallantry of the greatest possible heroism or of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme danger.Chief Secretary Hengry Tang Ying-yen said Thursday that Wong's selfless sacrifice deserved the highest respect and expressed condolences to his family.Wong's family members departed from Hong Kong to the disaster zone of Qinghai province on Thursday to collect his remains. BEIJING, April 12 -- As the country begins to phase out obsolete production methods in an economic restructuring drive, industries with overcapacity are likely to face even tougher financing terms this year.In response to the government call to curb excessive capacity, the banking regulator earlier this year asked lenders to maintain strict controls on loans flowing into industries including steel, cement, plate glass, shipbuilding, electrolytic aluminum, the chemical processing of coal and polysilicon.Liu Mingkang, chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, said that commercial lenders should readjust their credit structures to support the country's industrial upgrading and restructuring drive."Loans to industries with overcapacity were growing at a significantly lower pace last year compared with that of the overall credit expansion," he said. Given that the country was considering an exit from the loose monetary policy implemented to counter the financial crisis last year, analysts said credit avenues for industries listed on the government "blacklist" were set to be limited. The Chinese government is targeted to give out 7.5 trillion yuan in new loans this year, lower than the record 9.59 trillion yuan lent in 2009.Indeed, industries with excessive capacity have not benefited from the lending binge last year, as commercial lenders' loans to such industries continued to drop. NAIROBI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Somali pirates have hijacked a Taiwan fishing boat off the Horn of Africa nation coast with 26 crew members, a regional maritime official confirmed on Saturday.Andrew Mwangura, East Africa coordinator of Seafarers Assistance Program, said the ship's owner lost contact with the Tai Yuan 227 two days ago north of the Seychelles as it headed for the Maldives. "The fishing boat lost contacts two days ago and has 26 crew members from China, Kenya, Taiwanese and Mozambique. We received the reports on Friday and it seemed the hijack took place two or three days ago," Mwangura told Xinhua by telephone.The International Maritime Bureau has also confirmed the hijack.Pirate attacks off the Somali coast have continued despite the presence of several warships, deployed by navies of the NATO, the European Union, Russia, China, South Korea and India in the region to protect cargo and cruise ships against piracy.Kenya's proximity to Somalia prompted insurance companies to hike up their premiums for ships traveling to Kenyan ports to mitigate the increased insecurity.This led shipping companies to take the longer route around the Cape of Good Hope traveling to the Kenyan ports, with cost of doing business on the Kenyan coast going up by over 40 percent.To date more than 100 suspects have been transferred to Kenya by the Western warships patrolling the Indian Ocean to combat piracy.It is only Kenya and the Seychelles in the region that have agreed to take in suspects for prosecution, but both have recently complained about the burden of trying and jailing pirates in their countries.
