ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police have accused a suspect of felony murder and aggravated assault in a shooting that killed an 8-year-old girl near the site of an earlier police shooting.Police said Wednesday that they issued warrants a day earlier for 19-year-old Julian Conley in the slaying of Secoriea Turner. Conley's attorney, Jackie Patterson, said Conley turned himself in Wednesday. Patterson says Conley was peacefully protesting and witnessed the shooting but did not open fire himself. Secoriea was fatally shot on the Fourth of July while riding in an SUV with her mother and another adult near the Wendy's restaurant where Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old Black man, was killed by a white police officer on June 12. 730

It is a place that a lot of people here gravitate to.”Folks will be there again on January 5, because the nation’s political attention is now zeroing in on Georgia, where the fate of the U.S. Senate hangs in the balance.Georgia isn’t exactly used to all this attention. The state has reliably been a Republican stronghold for decades. In 2020, though, it’s emerged as the last of the battleground states, with the final two Senate races of this election cycle.In one race, incumbent Republican Sen. BAKERSFIELD, California — Fire crews around California are gradually getting the upper hand on wildfires that are ravaging the state.On Monday morning, CalFire updated the progress of multiple fires from around California.The Camp Fire in Butte County is now covering 151,000 and is 66 percent contained. That fire has already claimed the lives of 77 people. About 1,000 people are still unaccounted for. CalFire is reporting that 11,713 homes have been destroyed.
