HONOLULU (AP) -- Hawaii Gov. David Ige extended the state's mandatory 14-day quarantine for all arriving travelers on Wednesday in a bid to keep coronavirus cases in the islands low.Ige said the rule is being extended to the end of July as the state works to solidify a screening process that could soon allow travelers to return in some capacity.Officials said they are planning to install thermal screening stations with facial recognition in the airports by the end of the year.Hawaii has among the lowest COVID-19 infection and mortality rates in the nation.Ige enacted a mandatory self-quarantine for all arriving tourists and residents in March. Some violators of the quarantine rules have been charged. 717

High school lunch time is typically a time where you can see the hierarchy at school--who’s popular, who isn’t. For many students, the isolation can be devastating. But one Colorado school is bringing people together and preventing bullying in a unique way.A table brought students Sydney Martin and Mirsadys Wilson together.“I came over here and I just wanted to make sure she was OK,” says Martin. “And I instantly saw the quote and I looked at her piece and I was like, ‘Dang.’”The quote reads, “Be kind.”It inspired martin to sit with Wilson, who was eating alone.“She was just like being really supportive,” says Wilson. “So, I was like, ‘wow, girl’s cool.’”That's the point of the Together Table--to make inclusion and connection easy.People at the National Mall in DC added the positive messages on the table. Then, the table was gifted to Central High School in Pueblo, Colorado by the No Bully Organization.“At first, they were a little timid. They weren't sure what it is,” says assistant principal Zach Odell. “They saw these little stools and all this riding on it and they didn't quite know what to take, because they're just used to being in their comfort zone. But once they really got going with the table, it turned out pretty good.”Odell says it's helps make lunch time less isolating, especially for students who may be bullied or excluded.“This table eliminates that you can't exclude somebody from sit with you because of the way this table is shaped,” Odell says.He and students say its open design makes meeting new people less intimidating. 1576

Health experts aren't just asking everyone to have a scaled back Thanksgiving. They're doing it themselves.“Last year and the year before, we had between 20 and 30 people at our Thanksgiving table. It's absolutely my hands down favorite holiday," said Dr. Richard Besser, a former CDC director and the current CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. "This year, they're going to be three of us. There's me, my wife and one of our sons.” Besser says he won’t be seeing his parents in person. They're in their 90s.The doctor says Thanksgiving is different than holidays over the summer or Halloween, because there is already stress on health care systems.“But just thinking about all of the people who will have other health care problems, people with diabetes and heart disease, someone who has chest pain and can't get into the hospital, people who may have cancer and aren't getting treated or screened,” he said.Besser says Americans have to do all they can to push through these next few months until there’s a vaccine around.“Now, I'm sorry. I know a lot of people would like to get together. But remember, we really truly are talking now about being in a final stretch towards a vaccine,” said Besser.Communicable diseases expert and college professor Jill Roberts, her oncologist husband and daughter will be the only ones in their home on Thanksgiving, as well. They've been playing it safe this entire time, so Roberts’ husband doesn't put any of his cancer patients at risk.“I'm definitely concerned about Thanksgiving. I want people to, you know, be aware that it's a risk, protect the people who are the most vulnerable,” said Roberts.Experts have mentioned this before but it's worth repeating. If you are having others over or going somewhere where you don't live, the fewer people the better. Eat outside or open the windows in the house. Wear a mask and social distance as much as possible. 1915

HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) — A Pennsylvania college student who disappeared following a rugby tournament in Bermuda was found dead Monday after an intensive search of the British island territory.Searchers found the body of Mark Dombroski, 19, at the base of a colonial-era fort in a park not far from where he was last seen walking by himself on CCTV footage, officials with the Bermuda Police Service said at a news conference.A cause of death was not released but forensic experts were still processing the scene where his body was found and an autopsy was planned, said Acting Commissioner James Howard."Bermuda Police Service extends our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," Howard said after a day of searching that included local authorities, volunteers and Dombroski's family.Dombroski was a member of the rugby team at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia and had come to Bermuda to compete in a tournament. He disappeared early Sunday, with video footage showing him walking alone and looking at his phone as he left a bar where his friends had gathered. He was found at the base of Fort Prospect in a wooded area known as the arboretum and near an athletic center where the team had played during the tournament.Dombroski's family rushed to the island to join the search and retrace his steps."We dearly love our son, we cherish our son. ... We want him back," his mother, Lisa Dombroski, said at a news conference with police officials. "We thank the citizens of Bermuda. People have been with us shoulder to shoulder throughout this ordeal."Detective Sgt. Jason Smith said there's no evidence Dombroski was drunk, or that alcohol played a role in his disappearance.Lisa Dombroski speculated her son, who had hurt his shoulder in a game that day and wasn't feeling well, had simply wanted to call it a night. She said the surveillance footage showed him favoring his arm."He wasn't in a celebratory kind of mood," Lisa Dombroski said. "He wanted to get back." 1992
