 GUANGZHOU, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Three people were confirmed dead in mud flows and strong winds caused by Typhoon Neoguri in south China's Guangdong Province, said the provincial flood-control headquarters on Sunday.     The typhoon claimed two lives in Shenzhen City, when a mud flow inundated a section of road under construction. One person was hit and killed by an aluminum sheet blown off a stadium roof by strong gales in Zhuhai City, according a headquarters official.     The headquarters did not identify the victims. But the risks of mountain torrents and mud flows were still high, since rains brought by Neoguri were expected to continue.

CHENGDU, June 15 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao on Saturday ordered that the title of "heroic quake-relief force" be given to a helicopter regiment that showed loyalty and courage in rescue work following last month's major quake in southwest China. The command by Hu, also Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China, was announced at an award meeting here on Sunday.     The regiment of army aviation under the Chengdu Military Command did an excellent job in quake-relief missions and showed great loyalty, courage and dedication, the command said. BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- An executive meeting of the State Council (cabinet), presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao, on Wednesday decided to launch national comprehensive tests of dairy products and reform the dairy industry.     According to the meeting, the incident involving the tainted Sanlu milk powder reflected chaotic industry conditions, as well as loopholes in the supervision and management of the industry.     It is necessary to learn lessons, properly deal with the incident, improve the inspection and supervision system and strengthen the management of the dairy industry, the meeting said.     The meeting also reached six other decisions and ordered governments at all levels to implement them. These decisions include: Saleswomen check the returned Sanlu brand milk powders in a supermarket in Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Sept. 17, 2008.providing the best and free medical care to those sickened by melamine-contaminated milk powder,     -- confiscating and destroying all sub-standard products,     -- strictly supervising the production of dairy companies with on-site inspectors,     -- revising regulations on the supervision and management of the industry,     -- subsidizing dairy farmers and encouraging more production by those enterprises with higher-quality products and,     -- finding the cause of the incident and punishing those responsible.     The Sanlu Group, a leading Chinese dairy producer based in the northern Hebei Province, admitted last week that it had found some of its baby milk powder products were contaminated with melamine, a chemical raw material. It issued an immediate recall of milk formula made before Aug. 6.     Three infants have died so far. There are at least 6,244 infant victims of the contaminated milk powder, of whom 158, or 2.5 percent, have acute kidney failure, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.

BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao made a tour to east China's Anhui Province on Tuesday to inspect rural reform and development.     Hu, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited Xiaogang village of Fengyang county, the first in the country to initiate the household contract responsibility system in 1978. "Chinese companies should learn from the lessons of the Sanlu tainted milk powder incident."     Companies should strengthen management and food safety checks, and make sure their products were safe for consumers, he said.     Hu also heard the work reports of Anhui province during his tour, stressing development in urban and rural areas must be coordinated and that efforts must be made to push forward rural development and reform.

BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The government has cut back on import taxes on spare parts of large equipment and canceled the import tariff exemption on some complete sets.     The adjustments were made to support the domestic manufacturing of large equipment, said the Ministry of Finance.     Taxes levied on domestic enterprises for importing key spare parts of large equipment, including ultra- and extra-high voltage transmission equipment and transformers, large petro-chemical equipment and large coal-chemical equipment, would be refunded and injected into the enterprises as investment from the nation, it said.     The policy applied to imports after Jan. 1, 2008, depending on the date of declaration of imports.     In the meantime, the import of some complete sets of equipment by enterprises approved after Sept. 1, 2008 would no longer enjoy the tax exemption. Both domestic and foreign-funded projects are subject to the new policy, the ministry said.     Imports of such equipment by enterprises approved before Sept. 1 would continue to enjoy the previous tax policies until March 1,2009.
