Megyn Kelly's slow-motion exit from NBC News has turned into an all-out legal battle.Kelly's 9 a.m. show was canceled last week, but her contract goes through 2020. So now there's a protracted negotiation taking place -- and in an unusual move, Kelly's lawyer Bryan Freedman is talking about it publicly."Andy Lack needs to stop," Freedman said Tuesday, accusing the NBC News chair of leaking information about the negotiations.On Wednesday, Freedman upped the ante with another statement."Despite my efforts to handle this process confidentially, NBC News is allowing the media to run with completely false and irresponsible reports that disparage Megyn by erroneously claiming she has ever asked for more money than her contract requires," Freedman said. "If NBC News is not the source then they have a responsibility as a news division to correct these false claims. Or are they somehow attempting to use these fabrications for some fictitious advantage in the discussions we're having?"Freedman also called out NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke: "If Andy Lack has lost control, my hope would be that Steve Burke can step in and not permit blatant lies about our discussions to remain uncorrected."NBC fired back with its own statement a few minutes later saying, "Unlike Mr. Freedman, who has repeatedly commented to the media throughout the negotiations, we respect the confidentiality of the process, and will have no comment until it reaches its conclusion."In recent days, several stories from outlets like The Hollywood Reporter?and Deadline have said that Kelly and NBC are at odds regarding the amount of money she'll be paid on the way out the door, and regarding the terms of her exit agreement.NBC is said to be reluctant to pay out the rest of her three-year contract, which is reportedly worth million. And Kelly is said to be reluctant to sign away her rights to speak freely.Sources confirmed to CNN that one of the sticking points involves something called a non-disparagement clause, which would prohibit Kelly from speaking ill of NBC in the future.A non-disparagement clause is often a part of a broader non-disclosure agreement, or NDA for short.These types of agreements are common when millions of dollars are on the line. Ann Curry recently confirmed that she signed an NDA when she was forced out of the "Today" show in 2012.Kelly is different because she has repeatedly challenged NBC News management in public, and has hinted that she knows more than she's shared about various NBC controversies.Those cases include the Matt Lauer scandal -- when the host was fired amid misconduct allegations -- and the circumstances surrounding Ronan Farrow's departure from NBC when Farrow was investigating Harvey Weinstein.Kelly's insider knowledge may have given her some leverage in the negotiations. She is reluctant to sign a one-sided NDA, a source said, because she is concerned that would leave her vulnerable to disparagement by NBC executives.But Freedman spoke out earlier when the Daily Mail, citing a source, claimed that Kelly wants an extra million bonus, perhaps in exchange for her silence.Freedman fired back: "Out of respect for the discussions, I am not going to share more details but any suggestion that Megyn is asking or looking for more than her contract is untrue."Freedman said this bonus idea was "clearly planted by NBC News to continue its mission to harm Megyn and gain some sort of leverage. It won't work. Andy Lack needs to stop."In response, Page Six quoted an NBC "insider" saying, "These are desperate attempts to distract from the main issue: Her offensive comments on live TV about blackface."Most of the drama is happening off the air, but NBC News has openly covered the Kelly controversy with multiple segments on television. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A grand jury announced Wednesday that none of the three officers involved in the police killing of Breonna Taylor will be indicted on homicide charges, including murder or manslaughter.Instead, one of the officers, Brett Hankison, is being charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for firing into the apartments of Taylor's neighbors. The class D felony is punishable of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to ,000. Hankison's bail is set at ,000 cash bond.Kentucky law says, “a person is guilty of wanton endangerment in the first degree when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person.”The other two officers involved in the shooting, Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, are not facing charges.During a press conference, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said the state could not pursue charges against Mattingly and Cosgrove, because their use of force was “justified to protect themselves” after being fired upon by Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker.“This justification bars us from pursuing criminal charges in Miss Breonna Taylor’s death,” said Cameron.Cameron also said a witness corroborated officers' claims that they announced themselves prior to entering Taylor's apartment, where they shot and killed the 26-year-old EMT. Cameron said it was "difficult" to inform Taylor's family about the grand jury's decision. "It's been a difficult day. It's a very difficult day for Louisville, the entire commonwealth and the whole country," said Cameron.Cameron expressed his condolences to Taylor's family.“Every day this family wakes up to the realization that someone they loved is no longer with them," he said. "There’s nothing I can offer today to take away the grief and heartache this family is experiencing as a result of losing a child, a niece, a sister and a friend.”With protests expected following the charging decision, Cameron is urging demonstrators to remain peaceful in the coming days. Before the charging decision was announced, Mayor Greg Fischer signed two executive orders.One order declared a state of emergency due to the potential for civil unrest. The officers returned fire, shooting Taylor several times, and she died in the hallway of her apartment.In June, the Louisville Metro Police Department fired one of the officers involved, Brett Hankison, saying he violated procedures by showing "extreme indifference to the value of human life." The other two officers involved in the case, Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, have been placed on administrative reassignment, WLEX reports.Protesters across the state have said these actions are not enough and have continuously called for the arrest of the officers involved in Taylor's shooting.Taylor is one of a handful of African Americans who have died at the hands of police officers or former police officers in 2020. (AP) — An elections official says a poll worker in Memphis, Tennessee, has been fired after turning away early voters who were wearing “Black Lives Matter” and “I Can’t Breathe” shirts.Shelby County Election Commission spokeswoman Suzanne Thompson says the worker was fired Friday after officials received a call from a witness at the Dave Wells Community Center in Memphis.Tennessee law does not allow voters to wear items with the name of a candidate or a political party on them in a polling place. Mail bomb suspect Cesar Sayoc will be held without bond after making his first appearance Tuesday in a federal court in New York.The defense issued no objection to US Magistrate Judge Robert Lehrburger's decision. Sayoc's preliminary hearing was originally scheduled for Monday, but as courts are closed on Veteran's Day, his hearing has been rescheduled for Tuesday morning.In a letter, prosecutors had said they were asking that Sayoc be held without bond, based on his flight risk and the danger they said he posed to the community.Sayoc, who spent Monday night at the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan after a charter transport flight from Florida, entered the courtroom wearing a navy blue prison uniform with a beige T-shirt underneath. He did not wear handcuffs or shackles.He conferred with public defender Sarah Jane Baumgartel, who sat next to him, and answered the judge's questions. Lehrburger officially appointed Baumgartel as his counsel.After the appearance, Sayoc and Baumgartel embraced before law enforcement officers led Sayoc out of the courtroom.The 56-year-old faces five federal charges: interstate transportation of an explosive, illegal mailing of explosives, threats against former presidents and other persons, threatening interstate communications and assaulting current and former federal officers.Sayoc is accused of sending at least 16 mail bombs to several targets, including CNN, former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. None of the devices detonated, and no one was injured. He was arrested October 26 in Florida.Daniel Aaronson, the attorney who represented him during proceedings in Florida, has said his client intended to plead not guilty to the crimes."Nobody has been able in a court of law to say that those were bombs that he sent," Aaronson said. Mandy Lamay wants to go from renter to buyer, looking to close on her first property during the COVID-19 crisis.“I started right as the pandemic was hitting,” she said of her home search. “That was kind of my driving factor for buying a house.”Purchasing a property during a pandemic, however, has proven to be somewhat problematic for buyers like Lamay.“You have to be viewing the house day one it pops on the market,” she said. “If you’re actually interested, you have to put in an offer immediately.”This kind of competition has created all kinds of chaos across the country.“We are seeing this pent-up demand,” said Dr. Jessica Lautz, vice president of demographics and behavioral insights for the National Association of Realtors. “We’ve actually seen in every region on a national scale that home sales actually did increase.”Lautz says after two months of drastic decline during the coronavirus shutdown, pending home sales mounted a record rebound in May.“The month-over-month increase in pending home sales is the largest that we’ve recorded,” she said.That’s more than a 44% increase after seeing home sales drop to their lowest levels in nine-and-a-half years.“Buyers are rethinking their living situations,” Lautz said. “So, the demand is really hot and that’s going to drive up prices.”Also impacting prices are slow building, low inventory and low interest rates.Combine those factors with more Americans looking to move from big cities to smaller towns and Lautz believes America’s real estate market will be impacted even more.“People are reevaluating and saying, ‘I don’t want to live in a dense area, crowded city center, crowded blocks,’” she said. “Elevator living is just not the right thing for people today.”For Lamay, she’s locked in a 3.125% interest rate and says she may overpay for her first property, if it gives her a peace of mind.“And then hopefully I’ll have a big new yard for my dog and myself,” she said. 1948
