Actress Ashley Judd has sued Harvey Weinstein, alleging the disgraced former film executive made inflammatory statements about her that hurt her career, according to court documents obtained by CNN.Judd's suit alleges that Weinstein deterred director Peter Jackson, who oversaw the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, and his producing partner Fran Walsh from working with Judd on the films, a move that not only "torpedoed" her opportunity to star in the Academy Award-winning franchise but also cost her additional work. She claims to have met with Jackson and Walsh in or around 1998 to discuss two different roles in the film, but the pair "dropped their pursuit" of her for the project after Weinstein told them the studio had "a bad experience" working with Judd, according to the lawsuit."The pathetic reality, however, was that Weinstein was retaliating against Ms. Judd for rejecting his sexual demands approximately one year earlier, when he cornered her in a hotel room under the guise of discussing business," the suit states.Jackson first revealed Weinstein's comments in an interview back in December 2017, months after Weinstein began facing a host of allegations. To date, the allegations against Weinstein range from harassment to rape, include the stories of more than 80 women and span several decades.Through a spokesperson, Weinstein, who co-founded Miramax and the Weinstein Company, has repeatedly denied "any allegations of non-consensual sex."A representative for Weinstein also denied the allegations that he smeared Judd's name."The most basic investigation of the facts will reveal that Mr. Weinstein neither defamed Ms. Judd nor ever interfered with Ms. Judd's career, and instead not only championed her work but also repeatedly approved her casting for two of his movies over the next decade," said a statement from Weinstein's attorney, obtained by CNN.Judd starred in "Frida," which was distributed by Miramax in 2002, and "Crossing Over," which was distributed by The Weinstein Company, in 2009.The statement from Weinstein's attorney also claims he "fought for Ms. Judd as his first choice for the lead role in 'Good Will Hunting' and, in fact, arranged for Ms. Judd to fly to New York to be considered for the role."Actress Minnie Driver was eventually cast in the role."We look forward to a vigorous defense of these claims," Weinstein's statement added. 2390

Along with the ornaments and strands of lights, two police officers in the 4th precinct of Minneapolis' Police Department added some unusual items to their lobby's Christmas tree: A collection of street trash, including packs of Newport cigarettes, a crumpled bag of Takis chips, a cup from a Popeyes fried chicken outlet, a can of Steel Reserve malt liquor and some yellow crime scene tape. Critics say the items chosen play on negative stereotypes about African-Americans."These pieces of trash were deliberately chosen to represent how certain officers feel about the community they serve: that Black people are a stereotype to be mocked and the lives of those they serve may as well be reduced to trash in the gutter," City Councilman Phillipe Cunningham said on Facebook. The department has since placed the officers on leave and has launched an internal investigation amid an outcry that the decorations mocked the precinct's predominantly black neighborhoods. The precinct commander also was demoted, according to the Star-Tribune.Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the tree "racist" and "despicable." On Friday, he vowed the officers responsible would be fired."Shifting the culture of the police department requires swift and decisive action," he said. "Termination is necessary -- both to discipline the officer and to send a clear message."A spokesman from the mayor's office has since walked back parts of that statement, acknowledging that the fate of the officers responsible will take some time to determine."Every day I work to bridge the divide between the police department and the community, as do so many others in our department," said Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo in a statement. "The culture of the Minneapolis Police Department has undergone positive change, however as this recent incident shows we still have much work ahead."Three years ago, the department was heavily criticized for the fatal police shooting of Jamar Clark, a 24-year-old African-American, during a scuffle with white officers. An internal investigation concluded in 2016 that the officers involved did not violate any department policies, and they were not disciplined. 2188

After a group of demonstrators posted Fox News Host Tucker Carlson's home address on Twitter, the network stopped tweeting. It is seen as a silent protest from the network, according to Politico. The account has 18.3 million followers, which gives it a huge audience reach.Fox News hasn't officially said why it stopped tweeting. There have been no tweets from the largely followed account since Nov. 8.Politico reports 1.4 percent of FoxNews.com traffic in October came from Twitter, including all of the network's official accounts. That information comes from a tracker called SimilarWeb.Data shows nearly 70 percent of FoxNews.com traffic is from direct clicks on the website. Twitter may not be providing enough meaningful impact to the network's digital business, experts say. 809

A Waterford mother went through what she calls "the scariest 10 minutes of her life" while visiting her grandmother last weekendLacey Guyton was leaving her grandmother's when she put her 2-month-old daughter in the car. She says she put her daughter in her car seat, and the diaper bag in the back seat and shut the car door — only to discover that the door had locked. She immediately called 911 and was surprised by what the dispatcher told her — that 911 does not dispatch emergency services to unlock cars or break windows.Guyton said the dispatcher then offered to connect her to a tow company but knew she needed to get inside the car immediately to save her baby."I saw her start to close her eyes and I just ran to the back window and smashed it open," she said.Guyton says Waterford police contacted her to apologize about what happened, but she wants to set the record straight. "They never had the chance to respond. Nobody told them. They didn’t know, and had they known I feel they would have definitely come out," Guyton said. She says she was just overwhelmed by the amount of support she’s received from everyone following the incident. "There’s been so many people reaching out to me, hundreds of people telling me their stories, thanking me for putting this out there," Guyton said.Mother and daughter are now both doing well. 1391
