SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California police say a man brandished what they later learned was a fake gun during a standoff that resulted in the evacuation of a hotel. The Sacramento Bee reported guests were evacuated from a Comfort Inn in Red Bluff early Saturday during a standoff between police and a domestic violence suspect. The Red Bluff Police Department said in a release that 21-year-old Christian Sandoval-Perez of Corning faces multiple charges including child abuse and domestic violence. Officers went to the hotel’s second floor and encountered Sandoval-Perez with a gun. He held off police for more than 75 minutes. 637

RIVER ROUGE, Michigan —The mother of a 3-year-old boy who was shot in a drive-by in River Rouge, Michigan on Sunday said her home was set on fire early Monday morning.Police say 3-year-old Jamar Lee Quinn Jr. was shot around 2:45 a.m. local time on Sunday when a bullet came from behind the house where he resides.Jamar was hit in the head while sleeping and was taken to the hospital. He's listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Danielle said he is unresponsive and on a ventilator.This is not the first time the home has been hit by bullets. ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Rochester, New York, say two people died and 14 others were wounded by gunfire at a backyard party early Saturday. Acting Police Chief Mark Simmons says a man and woman in their late teens or early 20s died. The others wounded have injuries not considered to be life-threatening. The shooting comes as the city in Western New York has been rocked by the suffocation death of Daniel Prude. Robert Davis, 70, faces criminal charges after he was caught in South Florida allegedly using a device that concealed his license plate while driving past toll stations, WPLG-TV reported. For the last 18 months, social media users have been posting videos of a Chrysler van driving past toll stations with a concealed license plate. Until last week, Florida Highway Patrol was unable to find the van. But on Saturday, an off-duty Florida Highway Patrol officer finally spotted the van near Homestead, Fla. "I kind of realized that is the guy and I had to call it in," Lieutenant Alejandro Camacho told WPLG. "And then troopers came and stopped him and made an arrest. "Florida Highway Patrol officials allege that Davis used a remote control that drops a cover over the license plate to conceal the license plate. It is unclear how many times Davis allegedly used the device. Davis was arrested on charges of organized fraud, cheating and petty theft, WPLG said.  1006
