SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family moving from Philadelphia to San Diego says they had their belongings stolen within the first 30 minutes of being here.The family says it all happened in the parking lot of a Target store in Mission Valley. The cargo carrier atop their car, stolen from the roof.The family says they think the suspects who stole the items may be professionals. Michael Kaminis says he thinks the thieves knew what they were doing when they unhooked the carrier without leaving a mark. “I was in shock, the kids were crying.”Kaminis says despite the setback, his family is staying positive. “You can’t let a thing like this deter a big life decision, they’re still on board, they love the idea of San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNN) - Actor Will Ferrell is ‘grateful’ for well wishes received after a car crash on Interstate 5 in Orange County Thursday night."While traveling back to Los Angeles after hosting a voter registration event in San Diego, a car carrying Will Ferrell and three of his colleagues was struck on the freeway by another vehicle," read a statement Ferrell's representatives from United Talent Agency.Ferrell and another passenger were "unhurt" and were released from an Orange County hospital, according to UTA.RELATED: Will Ferrell rushed to hospital after crash on I-5Ferrell's longtime driver, Mark Thompson, and his another passenger, identified as Carolina Barlow, remain hospitalized in stable condition, the statement said.Ferrell is "staying close by as his friends are being treated, and has expressed his deep gratitude to the first responders who were immediately at the scene and to the hospital team that took such great care of them," the statement added.Ferrell, 50, was a passenger in an SUV that overturned during a two-car accident late Thursday at Alicia Parkway in Mission Viejo, according to an accident report from the California Highway Patrol.According to the accident report, Ferrell's vehicle was struck when another car veered into its lane. She said sports have a huge impact on young women, "they have a greater chance of success professionally but also their self confidence is higher."A 2014 Ernst & Young and espnW study found 52% of female executives played sports in college. "This is one small way we can contribute to someone's success," Nowlan said, referring to the ,000 scholarship they're awarding for the first time.High school seniors must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be pursuing college sports and have a story of overcoming adversity. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Voters will decide whether a controversial North County housing development goes forward, the Board of Supervisors decided Tuesday.After a public hearing, the board voted 4-0 -- Ron Roberts was absent -- to place the Newland Sierra project on the March 3, 2020, ballot. The board's action came two months after a Sept. 26 vote amending several provisions in the county general plan that allowed for Newland Communities to build in the Miriam Mountains area, directly west of Interstate 15 and near the cities of Escondido, San Marcos and Vista. The proposed development is in an area noted for wildlife and a tranquil ambience. The development would also feature 81,000 square feet of commercial space, a six-acre school site, 35.87 acres of public and private parks, 19.2 miles of multi- use community trails, an equestrian staging area and 1,209 acres of open space. The project would include numerous eco-friendly features, including solar panels, electric-vehicle charging stations, xeriscaping and gray-water systems, according to the developers. Opponents gathered roughly 117,000 signatures and presented their petition to the county. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of San Diego politicians presented a plan to White House officials Tuesday to finally address the flow of sewage from Mexico into U.S. waters.The centerpiece of the proposal is a 4 million treatment facility that would be able to process 163 million gallons of runoff a day.Local officials estimate the facility would be able to reduce the number days that sewage flows across the border from 138 to 12.“That’s 12 days more than it should be, but its certainly a lot better than the current situation is,” said San Diego Supervisor Greg Cox.He traveled to Washington for a meeting with White House officials on Tuesday, along with a delegation including San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina and Port of San Diego Chairman Garry Bonelli. “We had a very good meeting,” reported Cox. “They were very impressed. The gentleman from the EPA, who’s in the best position to move the ball forward with us, said he’d never seen a more united effort coming from San Diego to deal with this problem.”Officials are looking at three potential funding sources. One would require Congress to pass a series of bills that would allocate .5 billion to the North American Development Bank (NADBank.)Money from NADBank can be used for the financing of infrastructure and water pollution projects on both sides of the border.A second option would also require an act of Congress, approving HR 4039 introduced by Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA.) The bill would allocate 0 million a year for five years to the EPA’s Border Water Infrastructure Program (BWIP.)
