(KGTV) – Two people were found dead and two others were taken to the hospital after a fire tore through a La Jolla home early Monday morning.San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials said the fire was reported at around 3:45 a.m. at a home in the 2500 block of Caminito La Paz, near La Jolla Parkway.Responding firefighters worked to douse the two-alarm blaze but the flames completely destroyed the home’s second floor.A fire official at the scene told ABC 10News the roof was “gone” after the home essentially “closed in.” By 6 a.m., crews were able to enter the home’s first floor through a side entrance.As flames engulfed the house, a man and his daughter were able to escape. The man suffered unspecified burn-related injuries and was taken to the hospital. The injured man's daughter accompanied him to the hospital, but there is no word on if she sustained any injuries.Two people were unaccounted for after the fire erupted. A family member told ABC 10News the two missing people were an 80-year-old grandfather and the injured man's other daughter, who had autism and was non-verbal.At around 9 a.m., firefighters inside the home recovered two bodies presumed to be the two missing people.Neighbor Pat Nissan, who lives on the same street, was concerned after learning two people were missing.“There was screaming and yelling. I started hearing glass breaking,” Nissan told ABC 10News.Family members said the home was occupied by the man, grandfather, and the man’s two daughters.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 1561

LA JOLLA, Calif., (KGTV)-- Several people at the University of California, San Diego [UCSD] were hospitalized early Saturday over alcohol poisoning, the school confirmed.A spokeswoman for UCSD told 10News that a total of seven people were taken to the hospital between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM Saturday for severe alcohol poisoning. The emergency calls came from three locations on campus. One was from the undergraduate dormitories at Eleanor Roosevelt College, and two ambulances were dispatched to the Graduate Housing buildings. The school could not confirm if the patients were UCSD students or guests. While drinking is allowed on campus for students 21-and-over, the spokesperson did not say whether the hospitalized people were of age.10News spoke to students who recalled a lot of partying going on campus Friday night, where students appeared to be celebrating the end of finals and start of winter break."It was finals week, so it was very hectic," third-year student, Tyla Turner said. "It's like, you've been so much in the books for three to four weeks, you can finally go out. And it's like once you haven't been doing it that much, alcohol poisoning comes faster. It just hits you like that, you know?"These incidents come just a month after Dylan Hernandez, a freshman at neighboring San Diego State University died, after falling off a bunk bed while heavily intoxicated. Hernandez allegedly attended a fraternity party the evening before the fall. Since then, the state University has suspended all fraternity activities.To prevent tragedies like this from happening, last year, UCSD implemented a special policy for situations involving alcohol and drug intoxication. They call it the Medical Amnesty Program [MAP]. MAP states that if a student or organization finds another student in need of medical attention after drug or alcohol intoxication, they can call their advisor or campus police for help. As long as that student only uses the MAP policy once within two years, he or she will not have to go through a formal student conduct process. Second-year student Sydney Brown said she had no idea this policy existed. But she appreciates that this is in place to protect her peers. "If you're ever in that situation, you don't want to get your friend in trouble. You don't want to get in trouble. But if it's a life or death situation, you got to do what you have to do," Brown said. UCSD said everyone transported to the hospital was treated for non-life threatening conditions. 2507

(KGTV) — An East County father who lost his young son in a terrorist bombing in Sri Lanka is reacting to the death of the ISIS founder, who claimed credit for that attack.Alexander Arrow and his son, 11-year-old Kieran Alexander Shafritz de Zoysa, often found themselves on the trails of the Oakoasis County Preserve in Lakeside."We couldn't possibly pass anyone on the trail without him saying hi," said Arrow.Arrow says Kieran was friendly and exceptionally bright, with dreams of becoming a neuroscientist so he could help people. This past Easter, Kieran was in the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka, on a semester abroad. He was having lunch with mother and grandmother, when a suicide bomber walked into the restaurant, and blew himself up. The shrapnel killed Kieran, while his mother and grandmother survived.As a father wrestles with his grief, the man who claimed credit for the Easter day bombings that killed nearly 260 people, is dead. ISIS founder, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, blew himself up after U.S. special operations team cornered him in his compound in Syria this weekend."I am grateful to the U.S. commandos who did their job ... grateful to the armed forces trying to make our world a safer place," said Arrow.While al-Baghdadi claimed credit for the bombings, Sri Lankan authorities believe the suicide bombers were inspired by ISIS, but didn't get any direct aid from them. Arrow says because his son's killers also died that day, he was never consumed by a quest for justice. But this death gives him some hope."To the extent there are fewer suicide bombings ... that's a positive thing," said Arrow.Arrow prefers to focus on the legacy of his son, a boy he says embodied everything the terrorists are against."He was about inclusivity. (CNS) - Helicopters made water-dropping sorties Thursday morning on fast-moving, out-of-control wildfire, which was 0% contained after scorching 10,500 acres in the Lake Hughes area, prompting the mandatory evacuation of at least 100 structures.The Lake Fire was reported at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday near North Lake Hughes Road and Pine Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest, according to Marvin Lim of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which was battling the blaze along with Angeles National Forest crews, as well as assistance from the Los Angeles, Culver City, Beverly Hills, Monterery Park and Santa Monica fire departments.ABC 10News learned teams from Rancho Santa Fe, Vista Fire, San Miguel Fire, Lakeside Fire, Oceanside Fire, Camp Pendleton, Pala Reservation, San Pasqual, and likely San Diego Fire-Rescue were dispatched to assist in the firefighting effort.Three San Diego County strike teams will also respond, with each team bringing five trucks.As of 7 a.m. Thursday, the fire's size was listed as 10,500 acres, with three structures destroyed and 5,420 threatened, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No injuries have been reported.The fire west of Palmdale had a "rapid rate of spread," amid temperatures in the mid-90s, low humidity and gusty winds, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
