CINCINNATI — A group of images meant to sell matching sets of Macy's festive family pajamas migrated onto Twitter this week, where they were presented as part of the company's holiday ad campaign and criticized for their depiction of the group's only black family. The images appear to depict four separate families: Two mixed-race, one all-white (with a fluctuating number of children, depending on the picture) and one all-black. The all-black family is the only one depicted with a single parent -- a mother with three sons. Some, including online activist Tariq Nasheed and Cincinnati Councilman Jeff Pastor, felt the picture played on stereotypes of black families, single mothers and what a Washington Post columnist once called "the dangerous myth of the missing black father." 807

(KGTV) — A South Bay family is trying to help residents at senior care facilities one letter at a time.When Mariana Hughes learned of the ban on non-essential visitors at local senior care facilities, the Eastlake High English teacher came up with an idea."It just broke my heart. I didn't want them to be forgotten," said Hughes.Hughes contacted four facilities in the South Bay, including several veterans homes. Her 14-year-old son Christian then started writing letters, a bunch of them. The letters are aimed at injecting a little joy."I'm just going to write more letters, whatever I can do to make people happy ... because I know these are hard times for them," he said.Hughes posted her idea on Facebook, which quickly caught fire. Others promised to write their own letters. Some sent 10news photos of children showing their cards, drawings and letters, after another teacher began her own campaign to send letters to nursing homes in the East County."If we get the word out and this catches on, lots more seniors that are lonely, afraid and sad are going to see that their community loves them," said Hughes.It's a love received, word by word."We can't maybe fix the whole world, but each person can do something every single day to lift up other people ... and this is our opportunity," said Hughes.Hughes says she's taking precautions, including washing hands before letter writing, and using stickers instead of stamps. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A transient pleaded guilty to an arson count Monday for setting a fire in Chula Vista, one of several blazes he was arrested on suspicion of sparking.Alejandro Gonzalez, 33, is slated to be sentenced Jan. 13 to a 32-month prison term.He was initially charged with four felony counts of arson of a structure or forest involving blazes on May 24, June 14, Sept. 17 and Sept. 20, but those counts were dismissed Monday morning as part of his plea to a newly filed arson of property count.The new count is not connected with a specific fire, but Deputy District Attorney Roza Egiazarian said all the blazes he was charged with setting will be considered at his sentencing hearing.RELATED: Man tied to series of fires in Chula Vista river bottom arrestedAccording to Chula Vista police, who said about a dozen blazes were sparked at various locations throughout the city since late April, Gonzalez was arrested near the scene of a Sept. 20 brush fire.Officers spotted him "walking quickly away" from the blaze in the 1700 block of Fourth Avenue, according to police, who said he had several lighters in his possession and during questioning, "admitted to intentionally setting several brush fires in the river-bottom area over the past five months. Gonzalez claimed he was setting the fires due to hearing voices."Chula Vista police said the fires were largely in the river bottom area that Gonzalez was "known to frequent" and mostly charred vegetation. Chris Krebs, the now fired Homeland Security cybersecurity expert who debunked claims of a rigged election, testified before a Senate panel on Wednesday, reiterating that the 2020 election was fair and that there was no credible evidence of widespread fraud.Krebs, who was assigned to head Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency by the Trump administration in 2018, was fired last month after his agency co-signed a statement defending the 2020 election process. President Donald Trump and Republican allies have continued to claim that the election was rigged and that President-elect Joe Biden was not the rightful winner, despite dozens of court rulings by both Democratic and Republican-appointed judges that repudiate these claims.Krebs conceded that the election system has vulnerabilities, but added that voters should have faith that election canvassing and auditing measures confirm that the election was fair.Krebs went on to say that allegations that voting machines were rigged are baseless, a claim backed up in recent court rulings.“The allegations being thrown around about manipulation of the equipment used in the election are baseless,” Krebs said. “These claims are not only inaccurate and ‘technically incoherent,’ according to 59 election security experts, but they are also dangerous and only serve to confuse, scare, and ultimately undermine confidence in the election. (KGTV) - Arson investigators are looking into a fire that damaged a Mexican restaurant in Chula Vista late Thursday evening.The fire at Tacos Y Mariscos Imperial, located on 2490 Main Street, was reported at around 10:15 p.m., according to fire officials at the scene.Firefighters said the blaze started outside and quickly spread to the front of the restaurant.No one was inside the restaurant at the time of the fire.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 491
