The annual New York Toy Fair showed off some fo the newest and most innovative toys from big name brands like Lego, Mattel, and Hasbro.Although, some of them may give parents second thoughts on purchasing that new toy. One of the newest - and grossest - toys is the Poo-Dough. You know, it's practically Play-Dough and it looks like something you'd normally flush down the toilet, but luckily it comes without the smell. It allows you to shape the perfect stool with two different shades of brown dough. Another highlight of the toy fair is the Pop-A-Zit. It's for those that love to pop those pesky blemishes, but this time it comes without the pain. If that's too disturbing or not your cup of tea, there's the Toilet Paper Blaster. The gadget allows you to shoot toilet paper spit-wads out of something that resembles a Super Soaker. This year, more than 1,000 exhibitors flocked to New York City to show their toys and attempt to lure in distributors. In 2017, kids went crazy for Fingerlings, FurReal Pets and L.O.L. Surprise, all of which made an appearance at Toy Fair. 1117
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — An upcoming rule change at the U.S. Department of Justice means federal inmate executions, which are currently carried out by lethal injection could happen by other means, such as a firing squad or electrocution.Currently, all federal executions are done via lethal injection unless a court specifically orders otherwise. The rule change gives the federal government greater flexibility to execute people by other means. The change states that federal executions are to be carried out by lethal injection “or by any other manner prescribed by the law of the State in which the sentence was imposed or which has been designated by a court.”According to the Death Penalty Information Center, all states that allow the death penalty authorize a lethal injection method. Nine states allow electrocution, seven allow lethal gas and three allow a firing squad. Most states that allow methods other than lethal injection do so only under the provision that the injection is found to be unconstitutional, unavailable or impractical. The DOJ rule change goes into effect on Dec. 24, before three more federal inmates are scheduled to be executed. Inmates are scheduled to be executed on Jan. 12, Jan. 14 and Jan. 15.If executions by other means will happen, it’s unlikely they will happen at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute, where federal executions typically take place. The DOJ notice states that the Terre Haute complex is equipped for carrying out executions only by lethal injection. If another method is used, it may happen somewhere else. The federal government has executed 10 people in 2020.Click here to read more about the rule change. This story was originally published by Matt McKinney on WRTV in Indianapolis. 1752
Student loan borrowers getting a break on their payments right now are seeing an additional benefit. Their credit scores are going up.The average credit score of all student loan borrowers increased from 647 in March to 656 in June, according to a report from the Federal Bank of New York.Student loans can typically have a significant impact on your credit score if you have a lot of this debt, but your payment history accounts for the biggest part of your credit score. It's important to remember this pause on payments is only until the end of the year, currently. You need to prepare now for when those payments will start again and using a higher credit score now could help.“As your score improves, if that's the case, to shop around and move other high interest debt into lower interest rate accounts, if you're qualifying for those,” said Bruce McClary with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. It's not just student loan debt people are figuring out how to manage. The average person working with a nonprofit credit counseling agency right now is coming in with ,000 in credit card debt spread across five credit cards. That's up from last year.“There's this insular bubble right now that's still relatively intact that's keeping people a float,” said McClary. “What we're fully expecting is when that ends, when that comes to a screeching halt, if the current situation with unemployment doesn't improve much more, there's going to be a floodtide of demand for the services that we're offering.”If your student loan payments are on hold, make sure you're checking your credit score regularly.Credit counseling experts say it's not widespread, but they have been seeing some issues of payments not being reported correctly. You can check for free weekly at AnnualCreditReport.com. 1807

The Associated Press has obtained text messages that a U.S. Census Bureau supervisor in Alabama sent to workers that told them how to fake counts of households by entering misleading data.According to the AP's report, texts from the supervisor in October laid out how census takers should fake data to mark a household as only having one resident, even if census takers were unsure of how many people lived in the home. The supervisor's text instructed census takers to mark a household as only being occupied by a single person if they made two failed attempts to interview the residents and two failed attempts to reach landlords or neighbors."You are to clear the case indicating occupied by 1," said the text from the census supervisor in Dothan, Alabama.A census worker from Florida who traveled to Alabama to help with areas lagging behind on the county provided the texts to the AP on condition of anonymity to protect her privacy. The Census Bureau says it's investigating and hasn't identified any data irregularities. The attempts to suppress the population count came as Trump administration officials successfully shortened the Census schedule by two weeks. Critics contend that the count was cut short so the Trump administration could enforce an order to exclude undocumented immigrants from the count.Under-counting a given area in the Census suppresses the allocation of resources to that area and skews congressional districts. The Associated Press reports the Census Bureau has denied that it attempted to falsify information during the 2020 census, but the AP has reported that similar instructions were sent to other regions. 1649
