SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Days after revealing its move to downtown San Diego's Petco Park, KAABOO announced it's under new ownership.KAABOO's new owner, Virgin Fest, the music festival arm of The Virgin Group, will not change the festival's brand of live music, comedy, art, and culinary experiences, KAABOO said in a release.While Virgin Fest Founder and CEO Jason Felts has acquired all of the festival's assets, KAABOO San Diego itself will also not be rebranded. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Authorities are looking for an inmate who walked away from a San Diego rehabilitation facility.Steven Vargas, 53, was last seen at 10 a.m. Tuesday after leaving the San Diego's Male Community Reentry Program, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Vargas had been given permission to leave the facility but didn't return when required.The facility allows eligible offenders with one year left to serve to do so in re-entry centers, providing them with rehabilitation services that assist them with substance use disorders, mental health care, employment, education, housing, and more. Officials said they were alerted that Vargas' electronic monitoring device had been tampered with just before noon Tuesday.Vargas was sentenced to four years in prison on May 6, 2019 for vehicle theft with prior vehicle related theft convictions and grand theft of a firearm. He was scheduled to be released on parole in June.Vargas is described as a Hispanic male, 6-feet tall, and weighs about 192 pounds. He was last seen wearing faded black jeans, black shoes, a blue shirt, and a charcoal grey sweater. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- As hospitals in San Diego County receive vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, a new concern is surfacing in the United Kingdom.A new COVID variant is reportedly infecting people rapidly and may be 70% more contagious than COVID-19. The new variant reportedly caused over 60% of infections in London this month alone.But there is good news, according to UC San Diego infectious disease expert Dr. Robert Schooley."It doesn't seem to be any more difficult to neutralize and should be responsive to the vaccines we're using,” Schooley told ABC 10News.RELATED: Britain hit with several travel bans over new coronavirus strainEven though there's no evidence yet of the new variant being deadlier than COVID-19, many European countries aren't taking any chances. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Chicano history will be celebrated in San Diego this week at one of the city's most historic parks.On April 20, the Logan Heights community will celebrate the 49th annual Chicano Park Day at the famed park underneath the Coronado Bridge. The free festival brings together community members annually for art, education, entertainment, and honoring Chicano culture and the park.This year theme will be "Danzantes, Protectors of Our Traditions and Chicano Park, 500 Years of Anti-Colonial Struggle."Performances are scheduled by a lineup of traditional and cultural dance groups and one of the largest Aztec Indigenous dance performances by Danza Azteca Calpulli Mexihca. In addition to dancing, kids art workshops, speakers, and more than 325 classic lowrider cars and bikes will be on display. Attendees can also visit various arts and crafts, and informational booths throughout the colorful park.And, of course, there's the food, which will be sprinkled throughout the park at various booths.The event comes a couple days before the official establishment of Chicano Park on April 22, 1970, by activists. The site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 and became a National Historic Landmark in 2016.The park is known for an array of colorful murals lining the Coronado Bay Bridge's legs that make up the Chicano Park Monumental Murals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans announced Friday a list of roads that recently received funding in San Diego.More than 50 projects were allocated funds that, according to the agency, will bring goods to market faster, provide additional funding for investments that counties have made and help with traffic.Some of the funding is going toward projects like "intelligent transportation systems" and rail line safety enhancements.  439
