BALTIMORE — The Frederick County State's Attorney's Office in Maryland indicted a man who knowingly transmitted HIV to several women he met on dating sites.According to officials, the Frederick County Police Department started an investigation in 2017 on 34-year-old Rudolph Jericho Smith after different women told authorities that they believed Smith had infected them with HIV.During the department's investigation, officials were able to conduct witness interviews which informed them that Smith knew of his HIV-positive status since 2014. A search warrant for Smith's blood was executed and a detective confirmed his positive status. The department was later notified that Smith continued to meet women on dating sites and had unprotected sex with them without telling them about his status.Smith has been charged with first degree assault, reckless endangerment and knowing transfer of HIV.The Frederick Police Department is asking anyone who may have had a sexual relationship with Smith around or after July 2017 to leave contact information on the 1069

An officer with the Los Angeles Police Department is under investigation after his body camera allegedly caught him fondling the body of a dead woman. The officer and his partner were responding to a call about a possible dead body in a residential unit, sources told the Los Angeles Times, which first reported the incident. The officers determined the woman was dead, and while one officer went to get something from the patrol car, the accused officer turned off his body-worn camera and allegedly fondled the deceased woman's breasts, LAPD officials told the LA Times.Though the camera was turned off before the incident, it was captured by the two-minute buffer on the device, the newspaper reported."The department is aware of the incident and an internal investigation has been launched," LAPD officer Jeff Lee said, adding that he cannot comment further on pending personnel matters.LAPD Assistant Chief Robert Arcos told the LA Times the recording was "very disturbing."A source familiar with the investigation said the incident happened a few weeks ago but was found in a random check of bodycam footage. He called the incident "way beyond the pale" and "unacceptable" and said co-workers of the accused in LAPD's Central Division are furious. The case has not been referred to the District Attorney's office since it is still under investigation. The newspaper reported that the officer, whose name was not released, was placed on leave."If this allegation is true, then the behavior exhibited by this officer is not only wrong, but extremely disturbing, and does not align with the values we, as police officers, hold dear and these values include respect and reverence for the deceased," the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union representing the officer, said in a statement. "This behavior has no place in law enforcement." 1857

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Police responded to multiple reports of shots fired at Town Center Mall in Boca Raton on Sunday, but later determined that no shots had been fired.“The tips seem to center around a loud noise that occurred," Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander said.According to Alexander, one person who was originally reported to have suffered a gunshot wound was hurt when he hit his head on a door while fleeing the scene.“I hear a boom! And I thought that boom was like a balloon or someone falling or something, but as I look back … I see a bunch of kids yelling and crying and screaming, 'run, run, run, a shooter!'" eyewitness Stephanie Silva said.Detectives were able to recover both blood and hair on that door.Alexander said no weapon, casings or rounds of ammunition were found at the scene.“We have not identified any suspect, no gunshots or gunfire," Alexander said. “Right now we’re currently combing with assistance of ATF, they have dogs that can determine that, so that will be a focus of our investigation.”According to Alexander, the tips they received centered around a loud noise that occurred.“The important thing to remember is that something happened in that mall today to cause people to get concerned, a lot of people," he said.At this time detectives do not know what made the loud noise that caused the panic. Their investigation is ongoing and they are still reviewing surveillance video from inside the mall. 1456

Bernie Sanders has scored a resounding victory in Nevada’s presidential caucuses. His win on Saturday cements his status as the Democrats' national front-runner, though it's also escalating tensions over whether he’s too liberal to defeat President Donald Trump. The 78-year-old Vermont senator successfully rallied his loyal base and tapped into support from Nevada’s large Latino community as the Democratic contest moved for the first time into a state with a significant minority population. Sen. Sanders is celebrating his Nevada caucus victory hundreds of miles away in Texas. The Vermont senator took the stage before thousands of cheering supporters inside the Cowboys Dance Hall in San Antonio on Saturday night and declared, “We’re going to win this election.” The country’s second largest state votes on “Super Tuesday” on March 3, after next week’s South Carolina primary, but Sanders wasted little time declaring, “We are going to win here in Texas.”He added: “We are going to win across the country because the American people are sick and tired of a president who lies all of the time.”Sanders then modified the standard campaign speech he gives multiple times a day to touch more heavily on immigration for an audience about 150 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border. He noted that his father immigrated to the U.S. from Poland "without a nickel in his pocket" and added, "I know something about the immigrant experience. Together we are going to end the demonization” of immigrants.Amy Klobuchar is telling supporters her presidential campaign has “exceeded expectations” and she plans to carry on, even as she trailed far behind several rivals in Saturday’s Nevada caucuses. The Minnesota senator returned to her home state Saturday following a morning event in Las Vegas. Speaking to volunteers Klobuchar said that "a lot of people didn’t even think I would still be standing at this point."Klobuchar finished in fifth place in the kickoff Iowa caucuses before a strong debate performance helped lift her to third place in New Hampshire. She will campaign Sunday in Fargo, North Dakota, before holding events in Arkansas and Oklahoma, both states that will vote in the March 3 “Super Tuesday” contests. On Monday she will be in South Carolina, which holds its primary Saturday and where she will participate in a Tuesday debate.Meanwhile, Joe Biden is declaring himself back into the race for the presidency after early results in Nevada showed the former vice president in second place. Biden told supporters Saturday that “we're alive and we're coming back and we're gonna win.” Biden thanked unions for their support, citing labor groups that have endorsed him including firefighters, ironworkers and electrical workers. He took a shot at the race's frontrunner, self-declared democratic socialist Bernie Sanders, and former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who isn't competing in the first four states but has spent hundreds of millions of dollars of his own fortune hoping to pick up delegates starting on Super Tuesday."I ain't a socialist. I ain't a plutocrat," Biden said. "I'm a Democrat. And I'm proud of it."Biden said the Russians will continue to support President Donald Trump and Sanders, whose campaign acknowledged Friday that he was briefed last month by U.S. officials about Russian efforts to boost his candidacy."Let's give Trump exactly what he doesn’t want," Biden told his supporters. “Let's give him you and Joe Biden as the nominee.” 3481
