SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of men in high heels strutted through downtown San Diego on Saturday morning to support victims of domestic violence.The 11th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event started with the mile walk and ended with a family festival featuring face painting, live music and more.“It is a lighthearted way to bring awareness to domestic violence,” said Heather Frinlay, the Chief Operating Officer of the YWCA of San Diego County. The morning of family fun raised money for programs that provide victims of domestic violence resources like housing, counseling, and legal aid.“This is not a private issue; this is a community issue,” said Frinlay. “We still have one in four women, and now one in seven men experiencing domestic violence in their lifetimes.”San Diego County reported more than 17,000 incidents of domestic violence in 2017. 871

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews worked to put out large flames at a home on the 4400 block of Park Boulevard Friday night. A 10News viewer shared video showing flames engulfing the yard of the home in University Heights,  dangerously close to the pet grooming business next door.He told 10News people in the area broke the windows of the business to get to dogs inside, worried that the fire might spread to the business. Shortly before 10 p.m. crews were able to put out the flames. San Diego Gas and Electric crews were also on scene to turn off a small gas leak.   624

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dockless scooter users can now ride without a helmet as long as they are over the age of 18. A new law signed by Governor Jerry Brown went into effect January 1 lifting the helmet requirement for adult scooter users. AB 2989 removes the mandate for riders of motorized scooters to wear a bicycle helmet as long they are older than 18. It also forbids riding a motorized scooter on highways with a speed limit greater than 25 mph and roads with a speed limit greater than 35 mph, unless there is a marked bikeway. DUI laws still apply to scooter users and riders must have a valid driver’s license or permit. Helmets are required for those under the age of 18. People can still be cited for lying the scooter down on a sidewalk to impede traffic or riding scooter with a passenger. 807

San Diego ranked third on the list of housing markets seeing the biggest slowdown. San Jose and San Francisco, two markets also known for their high costs of living, places first and second on the list The report shows that conditions in San Diego’s market are favoring buyers more than they did a year ago. RELATED: Home prices rise, sales plungeMore than 20 percent of homes for sale in America’s Finest City had a price cut in January of 2019, compared with only 12.4 percent of homes that saw a cut in January of 2018. Of the homes that have sold, 95.7 percent sell for their listing price. At this time last year, 97.7 percent of homes sold for their list price. The amount of time it takes to sell homes is also on the rise. In 2018, homes sold in 60 days, including time to close, Zillow reports. So far this year, homes are selling in 75 days. Those buyers looking in cooling markets will likely welcome the relief, although the entry price is still high. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dramatic video shows what happened after a liquor store owner caught thieves taking off with a pricey bottle in University City.The theft that spurred Haithem Ballo into action unfolded on in afternoon in September. Surveillance video shows two women entering Courtesy Liquor and Deli. Ballo says the two women asked about his day and browsed the store. They asked about prices, pulling out inexpensive options and put them back on the shelf.A few minutes later, one of the two grabs a 0 bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky. At the checkout, one of women is seen walking out. The other woman waits. He grabs at the bottle, in the hands of a woman in the back. With the truck on the move, he's struck in the head with the bottle. A man in the passenger seat punches him in the face, before Ballo finally jump off, allowing the truck to speed off."We work hard for this money, got a big family. It's not easy to let people steal from you," said Ballo.Ballo says the three he saw are part of a ring of at least eight thieves that have stolen pricey liquor from the Vons store next door, repeatedly for the past six months. He says the same two women were recorded stealing from Vons this weekend.
