CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) — A Silicon Valley tech CEO is apologizing after he made racist comments and cursed at an Asian-American family that was celebrating a birthday. Raymond Orosa, his wife Jordan Chan, and their kids were celebrating her birthday on July 4th at the Lucia Restaurant & Bar in Carmel Valley, when they say a white man started yelling racist things about Asians.The incident was captured on a video that shows the man cursing and hurling racist insults and the server ordering him to leave."Trump is going f*ck you," the man is heard telling the group. "You f*cking Asian piece of sh*t.""The man in the video is Michael Lofthouse, a CEO of Bay Area-based cloud computing startup Solid8.In a statement issued to media, Lofthouse admits making the comments and says he will be reflecting on his behavior.“My behavior in the video is appalling,” the statement read. “This was clearly a moment where I lost control and made incredibly hurtful and divisive comments. I would like to deeply apologize to the Chan family. I can only imagine the stress and pain they feel. I was taught to respect people of all race and I will take the time to reflect on my actions and work to better understand the inequality that so many of those around me face every day.”The video was published on Instagram earlier this week by a family member who attended the party. One COVID-19 testing rolling out in the fall looks to achieve all three and maybe even one day mail the tests straight to your home.“Involves just a nasal swab so not a nasopharyngeal swab, just around the rim of the inside of the nose rather than tickling the brain,” said Dr. Joseph Petrosino.The test costs and lets you know if you’ve got the coronavirus within 15 minutes.So far it’s reporting an accuracy rate in clinical labs of 97%.Dr. Petrosino, a molecular virologist with Baylor College of Medicine, took an independent look at the Binax Now ABBOT Rapid test rolling out in October.He says they’re reliable, easy to use, and less vulnerable to supply chain interruptions.“The test is just made out of cardboard and paper, it doesn’t rely on a lot of supply chain plastics or other needs that could potentially hold things up,” said Dr. Petrosino.However, antigen tests like these have been found to produce more false negatives than lab-based tests.Dr. Petrosino says the key is the affordability that would allow large numbers of people at schools and businesses to get tested more frequently, isolating potential outbreaks.“What’ll happen is you’ll have a band that appears if you’re positive as well as a band that relates to whether or not the test worked itself,” said Dr. Petrosino.There’s also a free app that works in conjunction with the test.It allows people to display their results in places where negative tests may eventually be needed for entry, such as schools, workplaces, or large events.Last week, President Donald Trump said the federal government will buy 150 million of the tests to distribute across the country.Fifty million are expected to be available to purchase in October, but folks interested will need to get them at a medical clinic, at least for now.“Currently, you can’t get this test directly, but in the future, you may be able to,” said Dr. Petrosino.This story was first published by Cameron Polom at KNXV in Phoenix, Arizona. 2015

(KGTV) -- Several activist groups will gather outside the Carlsbad Police Department on Thursday, demanding change following a controversial encounter between an African-American man and Carlsbad officers last month.The group will release details on a meeting they had with the Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Carlsbad, Mickey Williams. The meeting was organized to address the use of force and arrest of a Black man by officers on June 11.The police department previously released a video that juxtaposed three camera angles of the confrontation with the Marcel Cox-Harshaw.RELATED: Police release body camera footage amid public concerns over officer misconductA witness' phone shows officers using a Taser on Harshaw and pressing his head into the pavement. Two other videos from police body cameras show officers meeting paramedics who were called out to a report of a man face down on the sidewalk. Police say that while medics evaluated Harshaw, he became agitated, yelled profanities and began walking quickly toward them.The department says that officers feared for the medics' safety, so they reached out and told Harshaw to stop, but he continued to yell as they tried to cuff him.Officers reported that they then used a Taser to subdue him after he continued to yell, struggle, turn and pull away.Activists dispute the department's account of the night, and they are asking the department to create an oversight board that would include community members, as well as review its de-escalation policy. 1545
