Trump's comments echo those of White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who defended the president's actions during a Wednesday briefing by saying that he wanted to avoid "chaos." McEnany also falsely claimed that the president never intentionally misled the American people on the severity of the virus.Woodward defended his decision to hold off on reporting about Trump's statements to The Associated Press on Wednesday night, saying that he needed to verify the comments the president made in his Feb. 7 interview before publishing."He tells me this, and I'm thinking, 'Wow, that's interesting, but is it true?' Trump says things that don't check out, right?" Woodward told the AP.He also added that by May, it was clear that Trump had been correct about the severity of the virus. By then, the virus had spread to all corners of the country, and he realized his story was more of a political story than a public health story."If I had done the story at that time about what he knew in February, that's not telling us anything we didn't know," Woodward said. He later added that getting the book published by Election Day was a "demarcation line.""Had I decided that my book was coming out on Christmas, the end of this year, that would have been unthinkable," Woodward told the AP. 1290

Turkish officials also provided CNN with passport scans of seven other men they suspect to have been part of the 15-member Saudi team. The passport scans were taken on the day of Khashoggi's disappearance. One of the passport scans appears to belong to Salah Muhammad al-Tubaiqi (spelled Salah Mohammed A Tubaigy in the document), listed as the head of forensic medicine at the Saudi Ministry of Interior. In a 2014 interview with Asharq al-Awsat, a London-based Saudi newspaper, Tubaiqi lauded a mobile clinic designed to carry out autopsies in a record seven minutes as the first of its kind in the world. Tubaiqi, who was working as the forensic consultant and supervisor of the clinic at the time, told the newspaper it was his idea to design the clinic to allow coroners to perform forensic examinations and dissect bodies at crime and accident scenes.Tubaiqi spent three months studying at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) in Australia starting in June 2015, a spokeswoman for the institute, Deb Withers, told CNN on Thursday.Tubaiqi was there as a forensic pathologist and his study was paid for by the government of Saudi Arabia, Withers said. He was the head of Saudi Arabia's Forensic Commission at the time of his visit to Australia, VIFM's annual report from 2014-2015 notes.Withers told CNN that Tubaiqi's focus while at the institute was on methods in mass body identification, particularly related to the Hajj, according to his application for the placement at the VIFM.Withers said Tubaiqi spent time viewing autopsies, viewing procedures in the mortuary and learning from radiologists concerning CT scans. He was not permitted to perform autopsies or any other procedures.Another member of the group identified by Turkish official media and appearing in the passport scans is Muhammad Saad al-Zahrani, who has appeared on Saudi state TV alongside bin Salman. His name is spelled Mohammed Saad Alzahrani in the scanned document.Turkish investigators wearing hazmat suits searched the Saudi consul general's residence in Istanbul on Wednesday, two days after the Saudi consulate in the city was searched. The search at the residence, which also involved dogs, went into the early morning hours Thursday. There was no word on whether anything was discovered.Turkish officials have told CNN that Khashoggi's body was dismembered after he was killed in the consulate. Riyadh has denied any knowledge of his whereabouts. 2447

Two-thirds of voters say their vote in today's congressional election is about Donald Trump, according to early exit polls, and more say they're showing up at the polls to express opposition than support for the President. The President's approval rating is net negative among the nation's voters, and more say things in the country are on the wrong track than that they are going in the right direction. Still, nearly 7 in 10 say the economy is in good shape, and those who say their personal finances are in better shape now than two years ago outnumber those who feel their finances have worsened.About 4 in 10 voters turning out to vote across the country choose health care as the most important problem facing the country, and more, 7 in 10, say the nation's health care system needs major changes. About 2 in 10 each choose the economy and immigration as their top issue, and 1 in 10 say it's gun policy. With a historically diverse slate of candidates on ballots nationwide, about half of voters say it's very important to them that more women are elected to public office and that more racial and ethnic minorities are elected.A sizeable 1 in 6 voters say this election is the first time they're casting a ballot in a midterm contest. 1242

We have such a limited government that should not be totally reliant on ... the police. We should be able to defend ourselves as citizens, he said. "I still totally believe that but I think that there should be a limit to who could acquire such weaponry." 255
