(KGTV) — Lhooq Books is the kind of place where easy reads mix with just about everything else.Owner Sean Christopher has spent years building this collection and re-building the location."Basically replaced, repaired or deep cleaned absolutely every inch of the property," Christopher says.He spent thousands of dollars turning a run down shack into an overstuffed book store, coffee bar, and community library and arts hub. He rents the space and his home next door from the same property management company. But this fall, when he called to ask about his lease, he instead got a 60-day notice to vacate."It was complete and utter shock because there was not even a hint of anything wrong going on," Christopher said.He acknowledges the owner has the right to end the lease, but 60 days to move his home and his business is overwhelming. When he asked the owner for an extension, he got an even surprising response."The property manager rep said do not contact him again, if you do, we consider it harassment and we'll give you a 3-day notice. But it's not personal, it's just business," Christopher says.Christopher started a GoFundMe to help with legal fees and is asking his customers to contact the city for help. He's hopeful he can still write a happy ending to this chapter of his life."We're not being unreasonable," Christopher said. "I'm just trying to get a compromise, a resolution for time so that I can relocate or get out without going, without maxing out my credit cards and going bankrupt or possibly homeless and bankrupt." 1568

(KGTV) - After a woman died in a jet ski crash in the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad on Sunday, Stephen and Aimee Cochrane were confronted with a painful memory.“I just cannot believe that this would have happened. It’s just wrong,” said Aimee.Her indignation was amplified by the fact that she and her husband were involved in a crash in the same lagoon in July of 2016.They had decided to rent a jet ski on their anniversary, something they had never done before.“We wanted to do something different,” recalled Stephen.But when they got to California Watersports at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, they had second thoughts.“It was wild. It was mayhem out there,” said Stephen, describing the busy activity on the water.Despite their hesitations, they decided to go for it. But before they had even completed one lap around the buoys, they said they were t-boned by another rider.“We both flew off the jet ski,” remembers Aimee.Stephen said he momentarily blacked out. Aimee remembers swimming over to him and seeing him face down in the water.He was eventually pulled onto a boat and taken into an ambulance. He said he ended up with three broken ribs and a fractured sternum.Aimee suffered some cuts and bruises on her legs, but no broken bones.Stephen said he had to take three weeks off of work and pay ,000 in out of pocket medical expenses. He says he still has pain in his chest from the injury.After the crash, they said they had no contact with the owners of the rental company. They said they were unaware if the company had made any changes to prevent future crashes.10News spoke to an employee at California Waterspouts who said they would not be providing any statements. CDC Director Robert Redfield stated on Thursday during the first White House coronavirus task force briefing held since July that schools should remain open during the pandemic, despite a number of major school districts going virtual only in recent weeks.This week, New York City became the latest major school district to close building amid a surge in cases across the country.“Today, there is extensive data that we have gathered over the last two to three months to confirm that k-12 schools can operate with face-to-face learning and they can do it safely and they can do it responsibly," Redfield said. "The infections we have identified in the schools, when they have been evaluating, were not acquired in schools. They were acquired in the community and the household.”CDC data released in October indicated that children can spread the virus within schools, but children under the age of 10 were less likely to do so. The CDC’s data did not find a link between a rise in cases and schools reopening in the fall.Earlier this week, the American Association of Pediatrics noted that over 1 million American children have been infected with the coronavirus."We urgently need a new, nation-wide strategy to control the pandemic, and that should include implementing proven public health measures like mask wearing and physical distancing,” said AAP President Sally Goza. “This pandemic is taking a heavy toll on children, families and communities, as well as on physicians and other front-line medical teams. McCance-Katz, the assistant secretary for Mental Health and Substance Abuse, said there needs to be a focus on students’ mental health.“We must find a way to alleviate that stress without ignoring the fact that our nation faces the very real and deadly virus,” McCance-Katz said. “The work of schools and the school personnel do daily is valuable beyond any words I can deliver. In addition to education, schools provide their children a profound sense of security and stability for the structure and safety of schools are an integral role of health.”McCance-Katz added that teachers and staff need to feel safe when going to schools, and that communities must do what is needed to minimize community spread.“We must use masks and we must enforce social distancing, we must employ creative and innovative ways to limit the number of children in a building at any given time.
