ERLANGER, Ky. -- Police shot a suspect outside a bar in Erlanger, Kentucky on Wednesday night after the suspect pointed a gun at the officers, according to Kentucky State Police trooper Charles Loudermilk.Loudermilk said two officers from the Erlanger Police Department had been pursuing 40-year-old Dexter Helton, of Florence, over an active felony drug warrant and located him inside Peecox Bar and Grill at about 8 p.m. He fled on foot out the back door of the bar, drew a firearm and pointed it at the officers, at which point an officer shot him. "This action caused a life threatening situation for the officers involved and they were forced to discharge their firearms," Kentucky State Police said in a news release. Helton was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with "critical injuries" after the incident. Neither of the Erlanger officers were shot or injured. Identities of the police officers involved have not yet been released. Investigators are reviewing footage from the officer's body cameras. Authorities also seized a witness's phone who had posted a video of the moments after the shooting on Facebook. Fake states "New California State" and "New Nevada State" have joined in on a lawsuit brought on by Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, looking to overturn the results of the 2020 election.According to Forbes, Chairman of the New Nevada State movement Robert E. Thomas III filed a 13-page amicus brief Friday.According to the brief, the pretend states are "directly impacted by the arbitrary and capricious changes in election laws and procedures occur with unfortunate regularity in the current States of California and Nevada.""New California State" and "New Nevada State" are movements seeking to form new states from rural counties who are trying to "stop the lawless actions" of the Democratic governors of Nevada and California, Forbes reported.According to USA Today, "New California" claimed its independence in 2018 in a bid to become the 51st state.The brief also alleges that the states took arbitrary actions to change voting laws without consulting their state legislature, which they say violates the Constitution.According to the Associated Press, 17 Republican attorney generals and 106 House Republicans have signed onto the case. 1165

(KGTV) -- An Encinitas family is thanking surfing legend Laird Hamilton after they say he rescued them during a flood while on vacation in Kauai.The Gwilliam family says they were enjoying a normal vacation on the island when, like usual, it started to rain.The family says they weren’t worried until the heavy rain got even heavier. “It was the type of rain that was so heavy, we would say there’s no way I could get worse," recouted Erin Gwilliam. "Then it got worse."The family says so much rain had fallen, the ground was no longer absorbing the water. That’s when the trouble started.Erin and her husband Jamas took photos of the homes all around them, some of which collapsed from the strong floodwaters.The only bridge in and out of the small town of Hanalei was covered by several feet of water. By the end of their trip, not only had the Gwilliam family run out of food, they also needed to catch their flight.The family was almost out of time when a friend called with a plan. The plan? Big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton.Erin says her family was a little star struck. "Being in the same boat as him was a little intimidating, but he didn't let that be, it was just like hurry get on we gotta go.”Hamilton took them to safety across the river and to a dock where the family was able to drive to the airport.Erin says she is thankful the surfer came to save them from a dangerous situation. “The ocean and water is his life he was so comfortable and confident in what he was doing, he was extremely capable, having him get you out it was a huge relief.”Due to the severe damage, Hamilton and his wife have set up a GoFundMe account to raise money. Facebook announced on Friday that the social network had exposed the private photos of millions of users without their permission.The company said a bug recently allowed third-party app developers to access photos people may not have shared publicly. Facebook believes as many as 6.8 million users could be affected.Photos that users started to upload to Facebook but did not post could have been accessed, along with images posted to Facebook Stories, Tomer Bar, an engineering director at Facebook, wrote in a blog post."We're sorry this happened," he added.Users' photos were exposed over a 12 day period in September, the blog post said.When asked why Facebook waited to inform the public of the issue, a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business, "We have been investigating the issue since it was discovered to try and understand its impact so that we could ensure we are contacting the right developers and people affected by the bug. It then took us some time to build a meaningful way to notify people, and get translations done."The information Facebook gives to third-party app developers continues to be under scrutiny. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — For Brian Masters, the prospect of owning two vintage John Deere tractors was an easy sell."I’ve always had an interest," Masters said of the tractors. And when his friend recently approached him to buy her two 1932 and 1946 model tractors, he jumped at the chance.After purchasing the tractors in July, he displayed them in his front yard with plans to have them running by this summer.But it wasn't until this month that he was slapped with a code enforcement violation by the City of Escondido."I parked them out there in late July and all of a sudden someone complained about me," Master said. "When I tried to talk to the enforcement officer, he just said they have to be out of public view."The code violation referenced "Sec. 33-96: Prohibited primary uses and structures" of the city code. The ordinance says, "All industrial, commercial and residential uses and structures not listed in this article are prohibited."Masters said he tried to speak with an enforcement officer about taking two weeks to move the machines, but was told he needed to move the tractors immediately — a tight timeline made all the more difficult when Masters believed his antiques were welcomed."At Halloween, we had a line of people posing and taking pictures with them," Masters said. "I don’t know who is complaining ... They were the centerpieces of our yard, it’s a little front yard."Masters said he is in the process of moving the classic tractors to his backyard.
