CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) — Coronado officials say lifeguards received multiple reports of shark sightings this week, prompting warning signs to be posted for visitors. The city said four shark sightings were reported between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, and the sharks ranged in size from 6 to 10 feet long. One of the sharks was seen by a lifeguard who was on a personal watercraft. The sharks were reportedly within 40 yards of the South Beach area shoreline. The city has posted signs warning beachgoers who visit the area.Naval Base Coronado also posted on Facebook on Friday that shark activity was reported in the Breakers Beach area, and closed water activities until further notice.Just one month ago, a 12-foot great white shark was seen off Coronado's North Beach area by a lifeguard paddleboarding about 100 yards from shore, prompting a 24-hour warning to beachgoers but no water closures. 910

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - It's art with a message, and the purposeful signs can be found throughout Middle Tennessee. The word "vote" is written on each of Paul Collins' artistic animal signs. The art pieces range in shapes sizes and species. Some are even hidden from plain sight while others can't be missed. It's become quite the scavenger hunt for some on the lookout for these signs."I look around and place them by bus stops," Collins said. "I look for the corners that have 'vote for me' signs because that’s fair game."Collins, an Austin Peay State University art professor, started the project 100 days before election day. Although he only planned to create one a day counting down until November 3, more and more people started requesting the signs and now he's made over 200. The signs can be spotted from Springfield to Nashville to Brentwood and Clarksville.Collins is a New Yorker who moved to Tennessee a decade ago and has used this project to see his new home state."A lot of this is getting to know your city," said Collins. "it’s been great to my family part of this was just a love letter to the city and go to places I haven’t been."Collins is doing all of this out of his own pocket and gives away the signs for free. He says as long as it inspires residents to register and vote, it's a job well done."Vote that's it, it's really simple," Collins said, "Exercise the joy and responsibility of being American and vote."The voter registration deadline is October 5. A map of where his artwork is located can be found here. The Clarksville area has an installation of 31 pieces on the Austin Peay State University campus. This story was first reported by Seena Sleem at WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee. 1719

City officials voted unanimously on Thursday to install two new rainbow-painted crosswalks to show support for the LGBTQ community in Phoenix. The vote was in response to interest by community groups after noting several other cities across the country have installed rainbow crosswalks as a symbol of inclusiveness with the LGBTQ community. "Phoenix values and embraces its LGBTQ brothers and sisters," Mayor Greg Stanton said. "Phoenix is committed to ensuring equal treatment and rights for everyone and showing our support because we know diversity makes us stronger."  The proposed rainbow crosswalks would be installed at two existing pedestrian crosswalks, located at Central Avenue and Portland Street, and the other at the crossing of 7th and Glenrosa avenues. The Phoenix Pride Community Foundation, one-n-ten, and Aunt Rita's Foundation have offered to cover the costs of materials, installation and ongoing maintenance for the rainbow-painted portions of the crosswalks that are not already maintained by the city. All three groups are non-profits that serve and assist LGBTQ individuals and the community."The City of Phoenix has always maxed out its score on the equality index. They've been longtime supporters of not only one n ten but Phoenix Pride and all of our LGBTQ organizations," said Travis Shumake, with one-n-ten. "Several corporations have gotten behind us to say we'll help you maintain that crosswalk. If you can make it happen we'll figure out how to make sure its paid for so our youth feel welcome in this vibrant city."City staff will work with these organizations to help provide specifications for design, materials, installation, and maintenance.  1746

CORONA, Calif. (AP) — A gunman opened fire inside a Southern California Costco during an argument Friday night, killing a man, wounding two other people and sparking a stampede of terrified shoppers before he was taken into custody, police said.Police swarmed the Costco after shots were reported at the huge store about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) southeast of downtown Los Angeles.Witnesses told KCAL-TV that a man with a Mohawk haircut was arguing with someone near a freezer section when he pulled a gun and fired at least six shots. The man involved in the argument was killed and two other people were wounded, Corona police Lt. Jeff Edwards said. In a release issued after 1 a.m. Saturday, Corona police said their conditions were unknown. The suspected gunman was apprehended, said he was injured and was taken to the hospital, Edwards said.No identities were immediately released. One of those hospitalized was an off-duty officer from another agency. Police said the name of the deceased won't be released until the Riverside County coroner notifies family.Shoppers and employees described terror and chaos as the shots rang out.Christina Colis told the Riverside Press-Enterprise that she was in the produce area when she heard six to seven shots and hid with other shoppers in a refrigerated produce room. She said her mother saw people injured on the floor. Will Lungo, 45, of Corona, said he and his wife were near the produce and alcohol sections when he heard gunshots."I thought maybe someone dropped a bottle of wine, but then I kept hearing shots," Lungo told the Press-Enterprise. "An employee came in and helped us out through the emergency exit."Witnesses told KCAL-TV that shoppers and employees rushed to the exits. The station reported that, at one point, more than 100 people were outside the store. 1829
