SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Nature Index research database announced today that UC San Diego ranks in the top 10 worldwide among institutions researching biomedical science topics.UCSD ranked sixth among the top-200 academic institutions and ninth among healthcare institutions worldwide in biomedical sciences. The university's branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research also ranked 42nd among the top biomedical science non-governmental organizations in the country.The rankings come from Nature Index, which tracks high-quality scientific research, studies and articles and the institutions with which they're associated. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police Thursday were searching for a suspect who carjacked a 56-year-old man while he was listening to music in a City Heights parking lot.It happened around 9:35 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot near the intersection of Euclid and University avenues, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.The victim was listening to music in his red 2013 Nissan Versa sedan when a man walked up to the car, lifted his shirt up and showed that he had a gun in his waistband, Heims said. The suspect then told the 56-year-old man to get out of the car, and the victim complied.The suspect got into the Nissan, which had California license plate 7EKT818, and drove off southbound on Euclid Avenue, the officer said.The suspect was described as a 5-foot-11 Hispanic man in his early 20s who weighed between 150 and 180 pounds. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott was celebrating a reelection victory Wednesday, following a dominant performance over private attorney Cory Briggs."When I was elected four years ago, I pledged to put the people of San Diego first, and that's just what we've done," Elliott said in a statement Tuesday night claiming victory in the race."With the help of our terrific team in the City Attorney's office, San Diego is a leader in reducing gun violence, helping domestic violence victims, and holding corporate polluters accountable. Workers will advocate for their rights two days before the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to hear a case that could have a dramatic impact on the ability of workers' unions to raise money.The case, Janus v. AFSCME Council 31, will determine whether public sector labor unions are allowed to charge mandatory fees to all workers in their organizations. The case could overturn the Supreme Court's 1977 ruling in Abood v.
