Chestnut is coming into the 2020 competition after consuming 71 hot dogs in 10 minutes during the 2019 event. His 2019 performance was just shy of his record of 74 hot dogs set in 2018.“I arrived to NYC early because of risk of visitors to NY needing quarantine, my last practices were scrapped. The Department of Justice on Monday identified New York City, Portland and Seattle as cities that have allowed "violence and destruction of property to persist," as outlined in a presidential memorandum that could restrict access to federal funding.Earlier in September, President Donald Trump issued the Memorandum on Reviewing Funding to State and Local Government Recipients That Are Permitting Anarchy, Violence, and Destruction in American Cities.The measure allows the DOJ to target city governments that the agency believes has not taken steps to mitigate widespread criminal activity.So-called "anarchist jurisdictions" that meet the DOJ's criteria are subject to a 30-day review by the director of the Office of Management and Budget, who will issue guidance on restricting eligibility for federal grants, according to the presidential memorandum."When state and local leaders impede their own law enforcement officers and agencies from doing their jobs, it endangers innocent citizens who deserve to be protected, including those who are trying to peacefully assemble and protest," Attorney General William Barr said Monday in a statement. "We cannot allow federal tax dollars to be wasted when the safety of the citizenry hangs in the balance. It is my hope that the cities identified by the Department of Justice today will reverse course and become serious about performing the basic function of government and start protecting their own citizens."In New York City, the DOJ cited a monthslong spike in gun violence in conjunction with the City Council's approval of a fiscal budget that reallocated billion from the NYPD toward community and youth programming. The funding changes will begin in 2021."The budget resulted in the cancellation of the new police recruiting class, cuts to overtime spending, and the transfer of certain police functions, including school safety, out of the NYPD," the DOJ said in its statement.The Justice Department also cited the refusal of city district attorneys to prosecute certain charges related to Black Lives Matter protests that have been ongoing since the May 25 death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody."Both [New York City] Mayor [Bill] de Blasio and Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo have forcefully rejected federal law enforcement support," the DOJ concluded in its statement.The loss of federal funding would be a crippling blow to cash-strapped New York City, which lost billion in revenue amid the coronavirus pandemic. The city is currently facing a billion budget deficit that could result in as many as 22,000 municipal layoffs and furloughs in October.Requests for comment from the offices of de Blasio and Cuomo were not immediately returned.Seattle and Portland have also seen significant unrest in recent months since the death of George Floyd. In June, protesters in Seattle occupried a small area of the city of several weeks and vandalized an abandoned police precinct. The College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl is moving to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.Bill Hancock, executive director of the College Football Playoff, made the announcement in a statement Saturday night on the eve of the release of the final playoff rankings.The College Football Playoff and Rose Bowl "mutually agreed" to move the game because of the growing number of coronavirus cases in Southern California."We are pleased that parents and loved ones will now be able to see their students play in the game," Hancock said.The move came after several coaches expressed their dismay about possibly traveling to the Rose Bowl to play in a game where players' families wouldn't be allowed.Los Angeles County is under a stay-at-home order that took effect earlier this month. Pasadena, home to the Rose Bowl, has its own public health department but has mostly followed the county's practices during the pandemic.A source told The Associated Press that the Rose Bowl sought an exemption from the state of California to allow families to attend but was denied twice.Hancock said the game will still be played in the mid-afternoon on New Year's Day."We are very grateful to Rose Bowl officials and the city of Pasadena," Hancock said. "They have worked hard to listen to the concerns of the CFP, the teams that might have played there, and their state and government officials. The deadly wildfires are not only destroying homes and burning everything in their path -- but they're also causing poor air quality.On Tuesday, a thick haze blanketed parts of the Northwest, including Seattle, as fires across the border in Canada burned.The smoke that is blanketing Washington, Oregon and California is smoke coming from the wildfires burning in British Columbia, according to the National Weather Service Seattle.Air quality advisories are in effect for portions of Washington and Oregon, according to the NWS. 537

The Daily Mail released leaked footage of the fatal Memorial Day arrest of George Floyd, who died while in the custody of Minneapolis Police.The Daily Mail did not indicate how it received the leaked body worn camera videos of the arrest. Prosecutors told CNN they are working to find the source of the leak. Several media outlets have sued prosecutors in order to gain access to the body-worn camera footage from the officers."The prosecution team is not the source of the leak. We will continue to take the strictest precautions to ensure a fair trial," Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said.The Daily Mail said the footage was taken from the body cameras of Thomas Lane and Alex Kueng. Lane and Kueng along with Derek Chauvin and Tou Thao were fired as officers and criminally charged for Floyd’s death. Chauvin is facing the most serious charges, which include second-degree murder. The other three former officers are being charged with aiding and abetting a second degree murder. Chauvin was the officer that held a knee to Floyd’s neck for several minutes, leading to his death.The footage shows officers pointing weapons at Floyd in order to get him to exit his vehicle and put up his hands. The video then shows Floyd pleading with officers not to shoot him.“I'm not going to shoot you,” Lane says.The footage showed Floyd in an apparent struggle with officers as officers repeatedly asked Floyd to sit.As Chauvin laid on Floyd’s neck, Floyd could be heard telling officers, “Tell my kids I love them.
