Amman, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Jordanian King Abdullah II on Wednesday met with Xu Caihou, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, who is on his Middle East trip to boost ties with Arab countries. They discussed bilateral and regional matters of common concern during the meeting.The Jordanian king said China is an old friend of Jordan. The two countries have a lot of common interests and share similar views on various international issues. WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's rapid economic growth is good for the U.S. workers, and the U.S. government is committed to improving bilateral economic relations with China, said U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke on Thursday."China has lifted almost 200 million people out of poverty (in the past two decades). And in the years ahead, hundreds of millions more Chinese will ascend into the middle class," Locke said at a U.S.-China commercial relations forum, which was held in Washington ahead of the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) session scheduled for Dec. 14-15."The United States welcomes this growth because this is good for the people of China ... it's good for the global economy, and good for U.S. business and ultimately, U.S. workers," said Locke.He noted that as recently as 40 years ago, the commercial relationship between the United States and China barely existed. But in the recent decades, "we have seen our countries grow progressively closer."In 2009, the bilateral trade volume reached some 365 billion dollars. China was the largest supplier of U.S. goods imports in 2009 and was the third-largest market for U.S. exports, only after Canada and Mexico.Locke mentioned that as U.S. Commerce Secretary, he has visited China for four times."Each time I visit China, I'm absolutely amazed by the transformation and the progress within China," he said.Locke noted that although there are disagreements between the two sides, there are more opportunities for cooperation."In many areas, especially in emerging industries, like clean energy and biotechnology, the interests of China and the United States are tied together. And the reform as good for the U.S. will be good for China as well," he added.Locke also revealed that during the upcoming 21st session of the JCCT in Washington D.C., the two countries will seek to further "nurture and improve the most highly-scrutinized bilateral economic relationship on Earth.""This is our most important bilateral dialogue or mechanism for resolving trade and investment issues between our two countries," he stressed.The session will be co-chaired by Locke and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will also join the dialogue.

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China seeks a win-win partnership featuring equality and mutual trust with the United States, as the two countries' interests are deeply correlated in the era of globalization, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said."Relations between China and the United States should be cooperative and win-win and not a zero-sum game," Yang said in an interview in Beijing Friday.Applauding the two countries' consensus to build a positive, cooperative and comprehensive bilateral relationship in the 21st century, Yang said China and the U.S. should boost mutual understanding and learn to trust and respect one another.Mutual understanding is the basis for cooperation and a precondition for avoiding misjudgments, Yang said, adding that China's peaceful development is not only in the interests of the Chinese people but also for the whole world.To strengthen mutual trust, the two sides should learn to respect each other's core concerns and eliminate outdated ways of thinking, said the foreign minister.China adheres to peaceful development and the opening-up strategy that highlights mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, Yang said.China and the United States should respect each other's social system and cultural tradition, and realize that the two countries are at different stages of social development, Yang said.The two countries should properly handle frictions and disputes through dialogue on equal footing, he said.Yang said the bilateral ties have not been without any dispute but "generally, the Chinese-U.S. relations have grown at a steady pace.""We urge the U.S. side to abide by the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and the U.S.-China Joint Statement. TIANJIN, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A subway train of six cars being assembled rolled off a production line Friday at a production base in north China's Tianjin Municipality, according to China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation (CSR).The subway train is the first of the kind ever produced at the CSR Tianjin Industrial Park, said CSR's chairman, Zhao Xiaogang.The train, designed to run at a speed of 80 km per hour, has a holding capacity of 1,800 passengers. It will will be used in Tianjin's Subway Line 3, which will begin service in 2011.The production base, with an initial investment of 3 billion yuan (455 million U.S. dollars), can produce 100 to 200 trains a year. It will attain a capacity of producing 500 trains annually in the next five years, according to Zhao.Analysts say the base's first product marked Tianjin's efforts to encourage the development of modern and more advanced industries in the city.The production base will boost the development of emerging industries in Tianjin and contribute to China's economic transformation, Zhao said.CSR, a state-owned company with more than 80,000 employees, produces about 70 percent of all high-speed trains China.
