SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A brazen package theft — and attempt to stop it — was caught on surveillance video at a Pacific Beach home.Penny Ryan wasn't home when the scene on her porch unfolded, but it was all captured on her doorbell camera. A man walked up to the residence with a small green skateboard and bag before he lays down the board and walks up onto the porch. The man then begins stuffing his bag with packages left on the doorstep.But before he gets away, a concerned nearby resident comes across the man as he's leaving and tells him to put the bag down multiple times.MAP: Track crime in San Diego County neighborhoodsThe thief appears to be willing to put the bag down, telling the resident, "I'll put it down, sir. Sir, I'll put it down." But instead, the man runs away.Ryan said the incident highlights a rise in crime within Pacific Beach, and residents are worried. A look at CrimeMapping.com shows there have been about 30 thefts and burglaries in the Pacific Beach area in the past six months."It has escalated so much in the last 3 years that we are all quite worried about how bad it’s going to get," Ryan said. "This is not our first rodeo with brazen theft at our address."Ryan said she had submitted a police report and the video to San Diego Police Department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — About an hour east of San Diego is a town with few people and a lot of history."In 1880 you'd be getting run over by wagons sitting right here in this little route," Larry Johnson, president of the Mountain Empire Historical Society, says standing on a road in Campo. "I initially came here in 1956."And like many others they come here for a reason.Robert Marks, who owns East County Lumber & Ranch Supply, learned Campo was for sale last week. "We found out the owner was selling all 3 parcels, maybe he won it in a card game!" Marks jokes.While we can't verify that, the current owner of Campo is a Las Vegas investor. He's looking to sell but hasn't named a price.The sale encompasses 28 residential units and seven commercial properties. About 100 to 150 people live in the listing area and about 3,000 are scattered across the whole town. Listing agent Conor Brennan with Marcus & Millichap says interested parties include rehabbers, developers, horse breeders, and movie producers."My reaction is if he sells it I hope we get someone who wants to put something in this community," Marks says."Personally I don't want big housing developments, I'm not for that," Johnson adds.But it wasn't too long ago the town was looking for another buyer in 1999. Since then, things have largely remained the same."We like it country, we like to have a few new people join us and keep population increasing a little," Johnson says.But residents of Campo want potential buyers to know this is: "It's awesome. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A female sea lion Monday wandered onto the streets of Point Loma, prompting spectators to gather and springing a rescue team into action.According to a passerby, the sea lion was spotted in the middle of Garrison Street around 4 p.m.According to crews, the sea lion would’ve had to cross Rosecrans Street to get to Garrison. Rescuers from SeaWorld responded to the scene, adding that the sea lion appears health and at a normal body weight, but they’ll need to further examine her to learn more.SeaWorld also said it’s unusual for a sea lion to wander that far away from the bay, but the animals have been found on porches, inside hotels and on driveways. 683

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A City Heights native is returning to San Diego as part of the Broadway tour of Miss Saigon.Jackie Nguyen is a member of the ensemble, but says this show has always had a special place in her heart."It was the very first musical that I saw, ever," says Nguyen.Getting the chance to perform in her home town is a thrill for Nguyen, who says about 20 family members and friends will be at each show throughout the weekend."I've always wanted to play the Civic Theater because this is where I first saw my big Broadway musicals in high school," she says. "It's a full circle moment for me."The show also has significance for her family, as Nguyen's mother is from Vietnam and has a similar story to the main character, Kim."When you are introduced to Kim at the beginning of the show, she's 17 and she meets and American GI. My mom, in the midst of the war, when she was 17, she also met an American GI. And they got married and had children from that. And eventually went to America," says Nguyen.That connection makes performing in Miss Saigon even more meaningful every time Nguyen steps on stage."Every night, i know that I am trying to give my family and my mom some type of honor in some way," she says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 65-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Serra Mesa on Christmas eve. According to police, the incident happened just before 8 p.m. at the intersection of Ruffin Road and Village Glen Drive near the Village Glen Apartments. Police say the woman was crossing the street when she was struck by a 16-year-old driver. The woman was rushed to the hospital with major injuries. The teen remained at the scene after the crash.
