And while the announcement has many Americans seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, the pandemic is still far from over.Pfizer's announcement on Monday is an encouraging sign, as it means that the company is on track to file for Emergency Use Authorization for the vaccine in the coming weeks. It also keeps the U.S. on a timeline to have at least one vaccine approved and available for distribution by the end of 2021.But Monday's announcement does not mean a vaccine is imminent. Pfizer is currently mass-manufacturing its vaccine candidate in the event it does receive Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA, and hopes to have 100 million doses of the vaccine ready to ship by year's end. But even if Pfizer is able to fulfill that ambitious order by Dec. 31, it would only be able to vaccinate about one-third of everyone in the county.Once the initial vaccine order has been completed, it will need to be rationed for those who need it most — likely health care workers, essential employees and people in high-risk populations. While it is unclear who exactly will be eligible to receive the vaccine first, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) says the early distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine will be "constrained tightly" and will be "highly targeted" to "achieve coverage in priority populations."Eventually, the U.S. hopes to grant emergency use authorization to several vaccine candidates — many of which are currently in production on orders from the U.S. government. The petition suggests Disney should re-theme the ride around "Princess and the Frog." Tiana, the main character in the film, is recognized for being Disney's first African-American princess.The petition had more than 8,000 signatures as of Thursday morning. The petition's current goal is set at 10,000 signatures.The call for change comes as the country continues to hold discussions surrounding racial injustice in the wake of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis police custody.Floyd's death caught the nation's attention after bystander video showed the 46-year-old man struggling to breathe while in police custody in late May. The video showed a white police officer, later identified as Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes.Chauvin was initially charged with third-degree murder before charges were upgraded to second-degree murder. He's also charged with manslaughter.The three other officers involved in Floyd's arrest — Tou Thao, J. OTAY MESA (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday released the names of a 70-year- old man and the two San Diego police officers who shot him in Otay Valley Regional Park in Otay Mesa when he allegedly pulled out a handgun that turned out to be a replica.Around 6 a.m. Thursday, Officers Jeremy Huff and Filip Perry from the Neighborhood Policing Division were in the park, near the 500 block of Beyer Way, to conduct an outreach and cleanup operation in conjunction with other city agencies when they encountered Carlos Soto, who was staying in an illegal encampment, according to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department."When officers approached the man, he produced a handgun," Brown said. "Officers gave the man commands to get on the ground.
