SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Though there are still votes to be counted, data from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters is showing how residents voted on some of the most widely publicized races this midterm election.While the Registrar's data reports 100 percent of precincts, there are about 490,000 outstanding ballots waiting to be processed — so these numbers are not the county's official results.They do, however, show how San Diegans compare in statewide races.STATEThe race for governor was fairly close according to the data, with Democrat Gavin Newsom leading 53.87 percent to Republican John Cox's 46.13 percent.Cox conceded to Newsom late Tuesday after statewide numbers showed Newsom take the lead, winning 59 percent to 41 percent.RELATED: Nathan Fletcher, Jim Desmond win San Diego County Board of Supervisors seatsIn the race for U.S. Senator, San Diegans voted for Democrat Dianne Feinstein 53.6 percent to fellow Democrat Kevin De Leon's 46.4 percent. In California, Feinstein took about 56 percent of the vote.California's Attorney General race was squarely in the hands of Democrat Xavier Becerra in San Diego County, who gained 55.16 percent of the vote.LOCALAt a local level, the close races continued, with Democrat Mike Levin taking former Rep. Darrell Issa's 49th District seat with 56.86 percent of the vote.The race for the 50th District remained close as well, with Republican incumbent Duncan Hunter holding on over challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar with 53.94 percent of the vote in San Diego.PROPOSITIONSProposition 6, known as the gas tax repeal, took favor in San Diego County with 52.64 percent of the vote. Though statewide the prop failed, only gaining a 45 percent approval vote.The Daylight Saving Time measure, Proposition 7, also had fans in San Diego County with 68.55 percent approval. About 62 percent of statewide voters also shot down Proposition 10.San Diego County also stayed close to the statewide results on Proposition 12, establishing new standards for farm animals. The county saw a 59.15 percent approval of the prop, while it passed the state with about 61 percent of the vote.MEASURESThe most contentious measures in San Diego were perhaps Measure E and G, for the Mission Valley stadium site.Measure E, the SoccerCity proposal, faced a wall of disapproval with 69.57 percent of San Diego voters saying "no."Measure G, the SDSU West proposal, took in 54.55 percent approval from voters.RELATED: HEAT MAP: Registered voters in San Diego CountyMeasure W didn't win over National City voters, with 53.9 percent disapproval. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Unified School District and School Board President Kevin Beiser are holding a news conference Wednesday to discuss student safety in light of the Parkland shootings.The school officials will explain the district's plan to address the nationwide student-led walkout to protest government inaction to curb gun violence. President Beiser will also discuss a resolution he brought forth at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting demanding action from state and federal officials to reduce access to certain firearms. During the news conference, officials asked lawmakers in Sacramento to implement a 10 percent tax on firearms in California to help fund school safety programs. Watch the news conference in the player below:  785

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The White House insisted Thursday that the CDC and the public will continue to have access to hospital data related to the COVID-19 pandemic, trying to quell concerns after the Trump administration directed a private technology firm to collect hospital data instead of the nation’s premier public health agency.Since March, the CDC has been collecting data from hospitals on bed space, COVID tests and other key metrics, like the availability of personal protective equipment, ventilators, and certain drugs.White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday the CDC-run system, the National Healthcare Safety Network, was only capturing 81 percent of the nation’s hospitals.She said the new system, run by TeleTracking Technologies, will provide a more complete picture with faster reporting to the White House Coronavirus Task Force. Hospitals began sending data to the new database on Wednesday.“The intent of this is we need to make sure there is daily data given to Dr. [Deborah] Birx and others running point on Remdesivir and identifying hotspots,” McEnany said.The change comes at a time when President Trump has sparred with the CDC over school reopening guidelines, but CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said he supported the move.However, critics see the move as the latest effort by the president to politicize science. Four former CDC directors wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post this week raising concerns about the president's efforts to "undermine" the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.“I see this as a big red flag. CDC has been sidelined throughout the response,” said Dr. Richard Besser, the former acting director under President Barack Obama.Dr. Besser told ABC News the hospital data should be kept with the nation’s premier health scientists, although he acknowledged the CDC database had limitations.“The data systems have to be improved. They've been underfunded, but why set up a system that bypasses the nation's public health agency? It doesn't make sense and it concerns me about the influence of politics on what should be good public health science,” he said.McEnany said the CDC would still have access to the data along with the public, although the last update posted to the CDC website is from July 14.Hospitals report data to the federal government in different ways. In some cases, hospitals manually input information to the federal database. In other cases, hospitals report data to the state or another intermediary, which passes the information along.Scripps Health said it reports COVID-related information through an intermediary, the California Health Association, so the federal database change hasn’t affected its hospitals.Sharp Healthcare and Palomar Health said the transition to the new system has been smooth on their end.“We haven’t had any problems uploading our data,” said Palomar Health spokesman Derryl Acosta. 2914

A year and a half ago, Leia Parker lost her life after a swimming accident, and with help from the company Lifesharing, Leia's parents had her organs donated to families in need."As a grieving parent, you just want to find meaning, and I believe everything happens for a reason," says mother Tihani. I am extremely proud that my daughter has changed the lives of five people, and she has given a second chance and new hope to others."Tihani was hopeful her daughter would one day grow up to be a strong independent women. And that is why she named her Leia, after the Star War character Princess Leia."Princess Leia was my favorite Star Wars character, and she was one of my bigger role models.
