GASLAMP QUARTER (KGTV) - A benefit was held Sunday night for a local woman injured in a parasailing accident in Mexico. On June 9th, Katie Malone was in Puerto Vallarta to celebrate her 29th birthday when tragedy struck. According to a local newspaper, Malone was parasailing when the rope tethered to a boat somehow broke and left her flying through the air.Malone crash-landed at an airport and suffered a fractured skull, fractured pelvis, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and other injuries. Donations helped pay for her treatment and life flight from Mexico back to San Diego. She spent about a month in the hospital. For the past few months, Malone has been in physical therapy and working to get stronger everyday. She says she is a year ahead of schedule."When it first happened, I just wanted to move forward and not dwell on things," Malone said. "I would do physical therapy and in between physical therapy I would do homework they gave me to do."  Malone is extremely thankful to family and friends who have been there for her and helped her move forward.Sunday night's benefit was held at "Tin Roof" in the Gaslamp Quarter. The benefit was to raise money for Malone's medical bills.Malone said she might go parasailing again, but not anytime soon. 1315

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- A Connecticut city is offering free roadside assistance to bicyclists when they suffer a flat tire or other minor mechanical problems.The program in Hartford is run by the city's business improvement district and is touted as the first of its kind in the nation. It is designed to encourage bicycle commuting.Six district employees have been trained to fix flats, repair broken chains, adjust brakes and do other minor bicycle repairs. They patrol the streets on bikes and have responded to more than 40 calls from stranded bicyclists since launching the initiative in May.The city's bicycle and pedestrian coordinator says Hartford also recently adopted a "complete streets" initiative, which will require all new road improvement projects to include bicycle lanes. 798

GRANT COUNTY, Ind. -- Two people are dead after two small planes crashed at an airport in Grant County Monday evening in Central Indiana.The crash happened around 5 p.m. at the Marion Municipal Airport off in Marion. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a single-engine Cessna 150 collided on the ground with a Cessna 525 CitationJet. Preliminary investigation indicates that the Cessna 150 was attempting to take off at 5:09 p.m. when it struck the tail of the Citation, which had just landed. "The airport in Marion does not have an air traffic control tower," the FAA said in a statement. "Pilots using the field are expected to announce their intentions on a common radio frequency and to coordinate with one another while on the ground and in the traffic pattern."The Cessna 150 was carrying two people and the Citation had five passengers on board. Grant County Coroner Chris Butche says two people were killed in the crash."FAA investigators are on their way to the scene, and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified," the FAA said in a statement to RTV6. GRANTVILLE, CA (KGTV) - A temporary relocation is becoming permanent for one Navy sailor.A driver backed into a hydrant in February causing flooding to 10 units at the Mission Heights Condominiums in Grantville.Cody Downs was among the affected and hoping to move back in after his apartment was repaired, all while others affected moved out.The active duty sailor says he was told by the management association in February that he could likely move back in by March. “It was just missed deadline after missed deadline,” said Downs.On Tuesday, Downs signed his 30-day clearance notice after the owner he was renting from told him they were selling the unit because of mounting delays from the management association and contractor.“I was intending on living here for the foreseeable future,” said Downs, “to have that taken away from me without any regard or any doing is just devastating.”The management company for the building First Service Residential could not provide a comment but said over the phone that repairing the affected apartments was ’98% resolved.’Downs is searching for a new place now, but he just wishes he didn’t take them for their word. "There was no verification process and I just kept giving trust and trust and maybe in a way I was the betrayed fool,” said Downs, “at the end of the day I lost my home.”  1375
