MILWAUKEE — What was supposed to be a girls trip to Atlanta with a Milwaukee mother and her five daughters turned into a nightmare for the Wenszell family. A man they never met was in the station as they waited for a train to arrive. “This man, agitated, talking to himself mumbling and next thing we know, ran over and pushed my wife she ended up falling onto the track,” said Jerry Wenszell, the husband and father of the family. After Susan Wenszell was pushed her daughter jumped onto the tracks and covered her mother with her body. But that left Katie Wenszell to take the brunt of the train. “Katie jumped down, tried to move Sue off the tracks and just got her in between the tracks and the train literally went over both of the top of them,” Jerry said. The train missed Susan. Katie was hit and dragged. She lost part of her foot, her shoulder was shattered, she punctured a lung and broke most of the bones in her face. “Most said had Katie not jumped down, Sue would have come home in a box,” Jerry said. The man who pushed Susan is now facing charges. But Jerry isn’t angry and relies on his faith. “No, actually I'm not. I actually prayed for the guy,” he said. Katie is now in critical condition after the incident in Atlanta over the weekend. She faces a long road to recovery, including the potential for more surgeries. Jerry says he’s had to stay in Milwaukee to take care of the family’s young children. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for Katie's medical expenses.  1595

Mourners lined up to pay their respects to Rayshard Brooks in a public viewing at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. A gold-colored coffin carrying the body of the man who was fatally shot by police arrived at the church just under an hour before the viewing was set to begin Monday. A handful of people were waiting outside well before the church opened. Officer Garrett Rolfe fatally shot Brooks in the back when Brooks fired a Taser in his direction while running away after a struggle on June 12. Rolfe is white. Brooks was Black. Rolfe was fired and is jailed without bond on a murder charge.Following Brooks' viewing, a memorial service will be held for him on Tuesday in Atlanta. 697

More than 80 people were arrested after a third night of demonstrations in St. Louis over the acquittal of a former police officer who had been charged with first-degree murder.Arrests came after police officers were assaulted and "a concentrated area" was hit with vandalism including broken windows, broken sidewalk flower pots and overturned trash cans, acting Police Commissioner Larry O'Toole told media at a briefing late Sunday."Some criminals assaulted law enforcement officers and threw chemicals and rocks at them. NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Buck McCoy is just one of many survivors from Nashville's Christmas explosion. Friday night he stayed at a friend's house but said he's not sure what's left of his Lofts at 160 home."About 5:30 or so I heard some gunshots - it sounded like four or five, maybe six gunshots. I looked out the window and didn't see anything," said McCoy. That's when he went back to bed, a decision he believes saved his life."Within maybe ten minutes of that a huge explosion, which completely ripped the walls apart of my house, stuff was coming down on me, there was dust everywhere," McCoy said.He got out of bed to find his face and hands bleeding from broken glass and debris. "You know I was looking out the window just ten minutes before the whole explosion, so if I had picked that moment where it exploded to be looking out the window, I feel very lucky on this Christmas to be here. It was that close," he said.McCoy managed to capture cell phone video immediately after the blast as people desperately looked for safety. "I was really thinking that there was some kind of a war going on and that this could be something that I wouldn't get through, that I would not make it through," McCoy said.He eventually walked to a friend's house where he has been staying ever since. McCoy said at one point he did go back home to look for his cat but firemen sent him away. She said Kris is the reason why she is alive today.“I almost didn’t make it.
