(KGTV) - A local woman says her heart stopped when she saw what someone nearly sat on at a popular trail in Santee.Angie Haake was just beginning her usual dog walk last Thursday morning near the entrance of Walker Preserve Trail, when she noticed two upset women on the phone talking to deputies.  Haake asked them what was going on and they showed her a razor blade on the bench."I was shocked when it saw it. Obviously whoever put it there wanted someone to sit down and slice the back of their thighs. It's cruel and hateful," said Haake.The discovery was not the first.  Another trail goer tells 10news about three weeks ago, she found a similar blade near another bench.  In November 2016, 10news spoke with a mother at Mast Park in Santee, who found dozens of tacks placed sharp-side up underneath leaves.10news reached out to deputies to find out how many reports of similar cases there have been on the trail, but have yet to hear back. 983

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The University of California has accepted a record number of freshmen and transfer students that includes the most ever from California for the 2019-20 academic year.The university system said Monday its nine undergraduate campuses accepted 71,655 California freshmen and 26,700 students who will transfer from California community colleges. That's more than 3,200 California students than last year.UC schools have been under pressure to accept California residents so they can have a cheaper way to complete a four-year degree at the state's top public universities.Nearly 218,000 prospective undergraduates applied for at least one UC school for fall 2019 during the application period that ended Nov. 30, according to figures released by the university system. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - Some local stores are having a hard time keeping up with the demand from senior shoppers who are showing up for the special early morning hours amid concerns over COVID-19. Over the phone, a Costco employee in Santee told 10News that more than 1,500 seniors showed up on Tuesday and the store hasn't been that busy since Christmas or Thanksgiving. Once you got inside it was surprisingly empty,” says Jeff.Costco's one of the growing number of stores offering special senior hours.
