LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A body was recovered in the ocean off a Southern California beach in the same area where a person was found dead in the water a week earlier. A search was launched Friday following reports of a missing swimmer in the Table Rock area of Laguna Beach. It wasn’t immediately known if the person found dead on Saturday is the swimmer reported missing the previous day. It’s the third death along Orange County’s coastline in the past week. LEMON GROVE (CNS) - A man was jailed for stealing a deputy's patrol car at the Lemon Grove Patrol Station, sheriff's officials said Sunday. Matthew Brian Porter, 44, was arrested Saturday evening and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of evading deputies, theft of an emergency vehicle and fleeing police on a highway in the wrong direction, all felonies, according to jail records. At about 9 p.m., a deputy at the Lemon Grove Patrol Station was unloading his patrol car at the end of his shift, according to Lt. Mike Rand of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. A man then got into the deputy's patrol car and drove away. Deputies spotted the vehicle leaving the station and began a pursuit. But they lost sight of it as it drove eastbound on Broadway. A resident called 911 to report the abandoned patrol car in the 3500 block of Grove Street. Deputies located the vehicle and detained Porter, who allegedly admitted to stealing the patrol car. Porter's bail on the evading charge was set at ,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. 1080

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas State Police say a man suspected of stealing a taxi was fatally shot by a trooper after the man stabbed and wounded another law enforcement officer over the weekend.State police say 58-year-old Aloysius Keaton of Little Rock crashed the stolen cab while exiting off Interstate 30 and stabbed an Arkansas Highway Patrol officer who tried to arrest him.Police say the trooper shot Keaton after a shock from a stun gun failed to stop him as he approached the trooper with the weapon.The trooper ordered Keaton to stop and drop the weapon, but police say he failed to comply with the order and charged toward the officer, who then shot the suspect with a handgun.Keaton later died from his injuries at an area hospital Saturday night.State police say the Highway Police officer was treated and released and the trooper was uninjured.Keaton’s body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where an autopsy will be conducted.The trooper remains on paid administrative leave and has not yet been identified. 1056

(KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested following a robbery at a La Mesa credit union Wednesday morning.According to police, the robbery happened at the Navy Federal Credit Union on the 8700 block of Grossmont Boulevard just after 10 a.m. Wednesday.Police say the suspect brandished a knife and demanded cash after walking into the credit union.After fleeing from the business, the suspect was found driving away from the area by officers responding to the incident.The suspect, Rafeek Karamat, 35, was positively identified using surveillance video from the credit union. Karamat was booked into the San Diego County jail for robbery. 652

LA JOLLA, California — A long-time animal rights activist who has filmed seals and sea lions harassed in La Jolla says people are not getting the message.Andrea Hahn has filmed the animals every day since 1994. Footage from Sunday she says showed some of the worst behavior she has witnessed in recent months: a woman with a shovel disrupting pregnant mothers on the beach.Another video shows a grieving sea lion mother with her stillborn pup. It has generated over 100 million hits according to Hahn. She says the pregnant mothers are delivering more stillborn pups because people are not giving them proper space. She has even witnessed tourists stepping on the pups.  "People are not getting it. Tourists think because they paid money to get here they have the right to grapple with the animals. There are perfectly good laws on the books and people are ignoring them and the government is not enforcing the laws," said Hahn.A "no-selfie" sign was recently posted at South Casa Beach. It was posted to remind visitors that sea lions and the seals are protected by federal law, monitored by park rangers, and it's illegal to disturb them.  Access to the Children's Pool is closed due to pupping season but is set to reopen in May. "Right now that area is safe and quiet for them. It should be closed for good," Hahn said. 1391
