SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff’s Department has released documents requested by ICE.Under the California Values Act or Sanctuary laws, the Sheriff’s Department is not allowed to help ICE find or arrest undocumented immigrants.But, Sheriff Bill Gore says the subpoenas that ICE issued last week, requires them to release the records. A 28-year-old arrested in January for assaulting his spouse and child. A 42-year-old arrested last November for first degree robbery. And a 31-year-old man arrested last December for spousal abuse and false imprisonment. The first two remain in custody. While the last two were released into the community.A spokesperson from ICE sent a statement saying in part, “The California sanctuary laws forces the Sheriff’s Department to release many criminal aliens to the street rather than transfer to ICE custody which they say threatens public safety and national security since many will re-offend leading to more victims.”Sheriff Gore says they want to make sure they follow the rules but make sure they protect all of those that live in the county.“We’re not the immigration police, we’re here to protect the undocumented people in the county just like everyone else. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Since they got the call for help a week ago, San Diego Border Dreamers has been working around the clock to set up an emergency medical clinic in Tijuana.Board Director Milad Torabi says he's getting word migrants have conditions including fevers, rashes, blisters and bad sunburns. On a Go Fund Me, they're raising money for basic medical, first aid, and sanitary supplies.The advocacy group is partnering with two UC San Diego organizations which specialize in this area: Flying Samaritans and the International Health Collective.They're accepting monetary donations as well as medical supplies.San Diego Border Dreamers is also seeking doctors, nurses, medical students, acupuncturists, physical therapists and medical translators willing to volunteer their time. 799

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State Students created public service announcements, as part of a competition, to encourage their peers to take precautions and stop the spread of the coronavirus. Thursday the university announced two more students tested positive for the virus, making the total four since move in.The County of San Diego and SDSU will use the PSAs online as part of a new ad campaign, according to the county.The university came to the county amid a spike in cases among young people age 20-29. San Diego County reported 25% of positive cases belong to that age group."We're asking people of your generation of your age group to do the right thing," Dr. Hala Madanat, Director of the School of Public Health at SDSU, said. She led the charge to create the competition."I really was hoping that we would hear from the age group where we were struggling to get adherence to the guidelines and be the ones to encourage their peers," to follow the guidelines she said.One of the three winners, Senior JakeBryan Bonifacio, said he felt an obligation to use his skills to help. "It [the pandemic] is very concerning so that’s why I felt compelled to share this opportunity, share my video."Bonifacio is a Marketing major and already had the tools to create a video. He said he used his own camera and editing software.He said it was most important to create an impact using levity and positivity. He used his pup to demonstrate social distancing, "He’s the star of the show... animals bring that lovability."While he is optimistic, he hopes to be a leader for change, to protect his peers and those more vulnerable, like his grandmothers.The winners were announced August 10th and received Apple AirPods, according to Bonifacio.SDSU has 29 confirmed coronavirus cases since March, encompassing students, staff and visitors. 1840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is warning students that they will need to be re-vaccinated against meningitis after Walgreens gave out shots at non-optimal temperature.According to The Daily Aztec, Walgreens recently discovered that the meningococcus B vaccines, given to 350 students on October 5 and 8, weren’t given at the right temperature.The company says its reaching out to students who received them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Starting this year, San Diego State University will begin restricting freshmen living on campus from parking their cars on campus.The new policy will go into effect beginning this fall, the university said Thursday. Incoming freshmen students will not be allowed to park on campus for their first year of schooling.SDSU's website says the change reflects the college's stance that the, "on-campus living experience an integral and necessary part of the total education."RELATED: SDSU details plan to avoid flooding at Mission Valley campusIn a statement to 10News, SDSU said the policy follows similar parking restrictions enacted at other California universities, including University of California, San Diego, CSU Long Beach, and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
